From now on, my favourite Sushi restaurant in Soho. The concept is great! They have a DJ spinning funky, house, chill, soulfoul tunes. We had the best Sushi we ever tried in London but its not only that! The coctails were amazing and the staff very cool, friendly and attentive. We have been greeted by the Manager and he even personaly took care of us! (You will not get that hospitality anywhere in London, nowdays) Anyway... the biggest surprise was the DJ. We were having our dinner and we were dancing on our seats! :) The crowd of the place is very nice. Good looking, cool and pleasant. Funky, buzzing atmosphere with excellent food, cocktails and funky tunes! We so much enjoyed it! :)
Best sushi in town. Accepts tastecard with booking for max two people. Unbeatable value.
If you can afford it... and if you can handle it... probably the coolest restaurant in Soho at the moment! :)
Last night me and my partner visited Ukia SOHO for dinner as mentioned on their website good food and service, We decided to give it ago. The staff were great, But what caused the disaster was that there was hair in both our sushi plates. I will not visit again
I had great experience had last night, good sake, favorite dish was the salmon and mango, beautifully presented with good service from the staff. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for couples night out as this place is a gem!
Wow! What a night! Possibly the hippest restaurant in soho right now. I work in the area and only visited Ukai last week for the first time. Food was excellent, vibe amazing, great tunes from the DJ and people having fun.
The staff were very helpful, although maybe too serious at times and seemed at odds with the vibe of the venue. One of the managers though, the PR guy I think, more than made up for it (And may I add, what a sexy smile he has!)
You can tell it's still fairly new as it wasn't lacking some problems, especially service wise, but the vibe and the food (and the good looking pr manager!!) more than made up for it! I will be back for sure and can only but recommend it to anyone looking for a trendy, fun but affordable restaurant in soho.
I was in Ukai Soho last night for the first time and have to say I was immensely impressed!
Absolutely amazing restaurant, great vibe, beautiful crowd and delicious sushi. We were all pleasantly surprised when we got the bill, as you get the feeling that you are dining in a much more expensive place, while the prices are extremely affordable.
Service was very efficient and reception at the venue very friendly. To top it all up, we then moved upstairs at their cocktail bar and had some of the nicest cocktails. Absolutely stunning bar as well, very edgy and classy.
Definitely our new favorite spot in Soho, strongly recommend it.
We had a very good night yesterday at UKAI in Soho. We were passing by and we saw the DJ by the window. That looked interesting and after having a look at the menu outside we decided to give it a go.
We received a warm welcome by the manager and even if we hadnt a booking and the restaurant was full he suggested to go upstairs at the Lounge Bar for a Cocktail and within 30min he would arrange a table for us. The Lounge Bar upstairs was a nice surprise. Very comfy and relaxing atmosphere. Perfect for first drinks. I had the "Gin Garden" and my gf the "Plum Mojito". Both really tasty and well presented @ £8.
As we promised we had our table ready shortly.
We had a platter of Mixed Sushi at around £15, Ukai Salad £5, Miso soup £2.5, Salmon Teryiaki £8, Shoftshell Crab Tempura £6.5, and Black Cod £12 and a bottle of "Pretty Gorgeous" Rose (loved it). The food was finger licking good. Very fresh and tasty. The portions ware the right size.
The staff were very friendly and good looking.
The atmosphere is cozy, trendy, and funky with the DJ tunes to escort our dinner we had a lovely night. Not the cheapest night out but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. My gf had a great time and thats what is important to me. :)
We went on the 11.02.2010 to the ukai sushi on Poland street. The food was amazing but they ruined the whole experience with the most unprofessional service we have ever had! There were only a few tables occupied in the restaurant and we constantly had to waive and shout for the waiter to catch their attention because they were ignoring us. The food came quickly but we had to wait half an hour for the waiter to come and clean our table. They were walking up and down by the bar and tried their best not to even look at the people sitting at the tables! We also noticed that there was the same problem at the other tables and some of them were charged for something they ordered but never received. Others even refused to pay for the sevice charge, which was automatically added to the bill! Really annoying!
Went to Ukai Soho on a Friday night for dinner and drinks. The restaurant was buzzing and had a really good vibe. Food was delicious - especially the black cod - to die for! Also had one of the tastiest cocktails ever - can't remember the name but it was a gin and cucumber base - highly recommend it. The staff were also extremely friendly and attentive without being overly so. Would also recommend going to the bar upstairs for a pre or post dinner drink - again it has a great vibe and the mixologist does a great job. I would definitely recommend Ukai Soho and plan to go back again soon.
Second time we have visited this restaurant in one month. We were impressed from our previous visit in December and we decided to give it a go again. Ambiance is cozy and minimalistic. Low lighting and nice background music. Restaurant was full on a Wednesday night, therefore a bit noisy and we had to wait at the Bar for around 10-15 minutes to get a table, even if we had a booking. Staff is amazing. Manager was smiley and polite, and suggested as Cocktails ("Hendricks Cucumber" - You have to try it and "Sake San"-amazing), while waiting for our table. Our waiter Peter is a lovely guy and he was very attentive and fun during the night. Food-wise, we liked our Sushi mixed platter (fresh and quality) but we were very impressed from the Black cod and the Salmon Teriyaki. Prices were very reasonable and there is great value for money. Very nice crowd as well. It seems that UKAI in Soho is doing something right and people appreciate it. We will visit again soon!
Maybe spicy salmon selection wasn't the best example of sushi art - although presentation was spotless, the freshness and texture of ingredients were similar to what you can find in take away sushi boxes. However black cod, following our little sushi disappointment, was just perfect. Succulent, firm fish cooked to the traditional Japanese standards. I tried this dish in many places in London and was really surprised by the quality of it in such an inexpensive restaurant we have randomly chose for the dinner - very good value!
Cocktails ok. Service - never mind.
Decor is worth mentioning though - dimmed lighting in dark, wooden interior and minimalistic Japanese accents works very well in Ukai. Bathrooms are truly inspiring...be aware!
So I could describe my overall Ukai experience as sensational for many various reasons (some mentioned above)
I would recommend the place as long as you're going in a good company :)
Indulge people!
Went in when somewhere else was full. It was a really good decision - cool venue, cheerful staff, free wine - and then great cocktails.
Looking forward to going back soon!
