Vanilla is a beautifully presented members club in upmarket Fitzrovia with all the airs and graces you might expect but none of the pretension.The VenueVanilla looks like a small venue from the outside – an understated doorway with a simple sign is all that betrays its location. You need to ring the buzzer at the door to be allowed in, but persevere because what’s inside is worth waiting for. As you walk down the staircase and into the bar you’re greeted with a world of sparkling white and, instead of being sterile, the look is clean, understated glamour. If you get tired of the plain surroundings the white is tinged with blues and pinks as the night goes on and the light subtly changes, altering the mood at the touch of a button. Outside the windows are attractive water features, and beautiful lighting hangs from the ceiling above every table in an opulent chandelier-style that isn’t tacky as you might imagine.
An interesting touch to the seating area are the drapes. Tables of two can be sectioned off with the aid of long white curtains that are drawn to add a feeling of seclusion. If you’re out with friends or on business then you can pull the drapes back so that you can enjoy an open atmosphere. This is a great touch and perfect if you want to impress a date.

The AtmosphereThe atmosphere at Vanilla is a nice, chilled out vibe that is great for any occasion. If you want a pleasant after-work drink then you can come here and not face the usual crowds and post-work crush. Unlike similar bars in upmarket Fitzrovia, staff are friendly, helpful and always on hand. If you’re overwhelmed by the large drinks menu then they’re happy to offer recommendations. Everything is done via table service so no need to queue at the bar for hours, and the experienced staff keep you topped up whilst giving you the space to breathe.
The DrinkThe drinks are incredible value for money. Cocktails are average in price (coming in at around £7.50) for Central London but the quality is top-class. Each cocktail is individually prepared, beautifully presented and includes everything from the usual to unusual – from gin-based cocktails to champagne. Particularly recommended are the traditional Pina Colada or delicious Moscow Mule. There's also a wine menu and a fully-stocked bar, all reasonably priced – a pleasant surprise and in stark contrast to the usual expense of going anywhere special in London.
The Last WordVanilla is an excellent venue that has the unusual mix of being upmarket, glamorous, friendly and value for money.
