Dreadful Service, waiters shouted to each other and decided to take my wife's plate before she had finished without even asking. The food was pretty awful and the cutlery and table were dirty. Stay away unless you want to dine at a Mcdonalds but pay 5 times as much!

Do not go to Velvet Lounge!

I had read a lot of great reviews for this place before me and my boyfriend went on Saturday night but what a disappointment! Everything was going fine until I was served my main course which was lamb rump. With the restaurant being so dimly lit, the lamb looked quite rare but when I bit into it, it was badly burnt on the outside and almost raw in the middle. It was like eating the inside of my cheek with charcoal on the outside. I ate what I could as I was filling up after the large starter but thought I would let them know when I thought of the meal. The manager was apparently too busy to come over and talk to me so sent one of the waitresses to tell me that the chef had checked it with his thermometer and it was medium. We pointed out that even if his thermometer had been working which it blatently hadn't, what about the charcoal on the outside. They stuck with their view of it being cooked medium and that was it, so we got the bill, left and will never be going back and will tell everyone we know about our experience. What annoyed us was all we wanted was an apology and they had to treat us like we were idiots. We both like our lamb medium so do know what to expect and certainly know when something is not cooked. A simple apology would have made all the difference and if the manager had the guts to go and talk to customers when they are not happy would be even better.

I had an absolutely great experience at Velvet Lounge. It is small, intimate restaurant. The service is second to none at Velvet Lounge.


The owners are from the North of England so expect good Yorkshire portions. The attention to detail regarding presentation of food is amazing. I can highly recommend the Shepherds Pie.
