I work just down the road from Verve, always walked past it never went in. Me and a few of my colleagues decided we'd go in on Thursday for the happy hour and had an awesome time. Good value drinks, great music and good people. Its not like other bars you find in the area, wish I'd gone sooner.
What a good/unexpected night we had! Went there on a Monday for the hhour (50% off drinks, insanely cheap for west end) then we were going to leave because we weren't planning on having a big one but found out that every Monday all drinks go down to £2.50 after hhour..soo obviously we decided to stay for a few! The DJ started playing, we got dancing...the crowd was great and and a night that was meant to finish at 9 ended up being one of the best nights i've had in ages!! I literally only have good things to say:)
Cheating! We went to this pub on Friday, like we use to do, to have some happy hours drinks. They (the Verve) sometimes change those happy hours, so some time ago it was until 19:00, then 20:00. This time we saw an ad saying that its from 4 untill 10pm. Fair enough... "we don't have to rush with drinking" we thought. About 8pm I went for two pints and saw two girls having problems with paying for drinks. They wanted two pay some 5 pounds, as a half price for two drinks but the guy said that... and that's the most interesting part... happy hours are until 19 and then you have to have some kind of a voucher (SIC!!!!!!!!). So then I interrupted and said, come on boss, you are cheating! You say HH are from 4 until 10pm. Then he answered that he was talking with girls not with me and that I shouldn't interrupt. Generally speaking it's a lie what they say... it's something that shouldn't happen. Misleading clients. Of course it works like that: drinking hh drinks... and then you are tipsy enough to order drinks anyway... and they are expensive: 5:30 for a pint!!! I used to like this bar... but now.. well... I would only go there with a bunch of vouchers which then I would give to anyone "in need"! :P
I went to Verve on Friday night for my leaving do with my work friends. All drinks were half price which was great and the table was only £25 which was refundable as a bar tab. The staff were very polite and friendly we were greeted by a lady called Jo who was always there to help. The bar had such a nice buzzy atmosphere and we had such a nice time. I would recommend Verve to anyone looking to go out for a laugh!
On Friday evening I went to Verve for my hen do. I called the number and spoke with a member of the sales team. They took the time to find out exactly what I wanted. They were really polite and I felt like I had known them for years.
Upon my arrival, I was greeted by the door staff who asked if I had a booking and when I said yes, they then escorted me to the area that had been reserved for me.
I went for one of the hen packages and it was delivered perfectly!! I had the BEST time ever and my friends thoroughly enjoyed it aswell.
I have since become a regular booker and never get bored of the place.
i Went to verve for the first time on saturday night, i had been past it a few times but never stopped in.
my friend had reserved us a table so we didnt have to pay or queue to get in we also got a few cocktails complimentary of the bar , not bad considering the booking didnt cost us anything. The dj's played some good music, there was a good atmosphere, and the bar was really busy but i didnt wait long for a drink.
after reading some of the older reviews i would have to say that a lot has changed at Verve Bar since 2009 because me and my friends had a great time, we will be going back
I went there on a Saturday night on a friend's goodbye party. We were able to get in for free because she had already been there and knew the staff because otherwise I wouldn't have had fun.
It seemed like a typical West End venue full of star/VIP wannabes thinking they're good just because they can pull some break dance moves on an already crowded dance floor. And the sad thing is, girls actually go for them!
Apart from that, it had the most disgusting floor I've ever seen with broken glass and remains of sticky Sambuca shots everywhere. The staff was professional enough, though a bit slow and the music ranged from Mr. Jackson himself to classics like Whitney's earlier tunes.
I wouldn't go back unless on a special occasion with friends and nothing else is available, although the long drinks menu did impress me.
Worst place I've ever been to.. still trying to forget that ruined Saturday night, the sticky mud soaked dance floor, the body odour lingering above it and the rudest security staff ever. Queue forever to get in, queue forever to the cloakroom, queue to get a drink, queue to get back to the dancefloor to join your mates with your drink, and then shoot yourself for going to such a sh*t place...
worst club ever, went in by mistake (well friend of mine just wanted grab a drink) never ever will go back, club is so dirty,no one cares about it,
men wearing terrible clothes and sport shoes acting like superheros (just disgusting) ,place is just so cheap u will get sick...
I went to verve for a meal with my girlfriend.
I ask if i could have 'your best vegetarian option' as me and my girlfriend are vegetarians.
The waitress understood what i meant and when our food came up i was staring at some sort of burger that contained meat
i complain to the waitress polite so it didnt cause a scene to the rest of the bar and she simply shrugged her shoulders and said its not as if your a proper vegetarian!!
at this point i had the right hump and we storm off and ended up in a subway.
Verve ruined our plans and i'd prefer to bath in my own excrement than go back there
I organised my friend's hen night here. Staff were friendly from the word go.
We were on the guestlist and didn't have to que which was fab as it was raining!
We were a hen party and got a shot each on the door! Barstaff very quick and pleasant.
It gets a bit hot downstairs, but we just moved our party up again and had a blast.
Check your change!
Went here on Saturday night, all in all a fun place to go, music of the pop variety so easily a crowd pleaser. Good atmosphere and mostly friendly staff. I agree it is a pain having to queue to go downstairs especially as that is where the cloakroom is. Don't understand the people who say the drinks are cheap as my friend got charged over a tenner for one drink due to either the arogance or complete idiocy of one member of the bar staff - so be careful!
I printed off a 50% offer voucher to use at Verve after a day of shopping in Covent Garden; this is the cheapest meal I have ever had in central London! There was a great atmosphere about the place and the staff were really friendly, I'd definately go back for more cheap cocktails!!!!
I really enjoyed myself on saturday night as did all my friends. it was a very friendly atmosphere and the music was great. on the main the staff were very polite and friendly.
I giving this place a 1 star rating, based mainly on the two reviews posted on the 19th Nov and 15th October by someone who clearly is a member of staff (or even manager!?) of Verve.
Who 'frequents' anywhere for a 'friendly chat with the staff'? Rubbish, musak styled reviews giving their own place top stars.. I can see through you!
I have to agree with the comments below about the security and I stopped going there because of that. However I have recently started going back because it seems that the management have changed the security to people who know how to treat customers.
I have worked in Leicester square for a couple of years and I have always loved going there after work, nice to go back and be welcomed by a friendly smile.
I have only been to Verve twice, so I guess I can only report on my first and second impression: this place is the lowest of the low... what a waste of space at such a brilliant location! I think the management should consider that people who party at Leicester Square in London -even if they are young and not particularly posh - expect certain standards of service. Staff members, especially security staff, need urgent training on how to treat PAYING CUSTOMERS...
I use to come very regularly to this place when it was Long Island Ice T - back then the ambience was great, security staff were freindly (and attitude free) and the venue was well maintained.
Have come here before when I was with a small group - and the same security men at the door gave us similar problems. When we got in we were disappointed with the poor maintenance of the place.
Now this place reminds me of the 'Pubs' we Londoners were accustomed to in 1400's - bad smell, unclean floors, rude staff and even ruder security. I don't understand what gives these part time working males with bad english and half a brain cell to talk to people in a manner which you would'nt talk to dogs.
We were a large group out for a birthday - and the security staff for no apparent reason would not let us in. The only pathetic explanation was that a large group is a threat! I don't understand how a mixed group of working class people can be threat apart from an increase in cashflow. The security men were very quick to attest to the fact of how 'hard' they were - where I almost felt he was trying to unleash some of his ego on me.
Take my advice and avoid this place like the plague - absoloute time waste.!
I'm a regular at Verve coming at least a couple of nights a week. I love the happy hour deals and the friendly staff always take time out to have a chat. I frequent 2or 3 other bars in Leicester Square and Soho and Verve is one of my favourites. The Friday and Saturday night crowd is a lot different from mid week so if you want to get good attention and a lovely cool atmosphere then come in on one those days instead.
Just came back home from Verve after a disappointing night out. After a couple of hours I left the overcrowded and smelly downstairs club for five minutes to get drinks at the ground floor bar (the tiny bar downstairs had nothing in the fridges except beer) -only to find out I had to queue to be able to go back! I had to spend twenty minutes stuck in the queue juggling drinks in my hands while my friends downstairs were waiting for me.The only positive thing about Verve seems to be the cheap drinks - anyone who wants to get totally wasted, this is your place! Everyone else needs to get really drunk too - that way you won't notice the sticky dance floor, you might enjoy sweaty bodyparts squashed up against you, and you won't mind being bossed around by the rudest security staff on earth.
Went to this place as a part of a theatre deal through last minute.com on Thurs 12th june 2008. It was a present for my husbands birthday and I wish we had gone somewhere else. I am vegetarian and i thought gone are the days where you have to actually check to see if a restaurant does vegetarian food but to my astonishment nothing on the menu was vegetarian apart from the side orders!!! We were then told that if you are a theatre deal then only certain things are included which was the mains and burgers but none of this was vegetarian! The waitress was very nice but didnt really know what was going on. In the end they offered me some pasta with a boring tomato sauce or they would adapt one of their platters. Then we asked for our desserts but we were told that dessert was not included in the deal when it is advertised on last minute as a 2 course meal! I was very disappointed by this restaurant and warn vegetarians to stay away!
Hay so what a place to go when the weather gets HOT. 1 of a few places that has air con the actually work, but the best thing is the extremely cold drinks, like the cocktails.
We had a party in the redroom which was wicked, food did what said on the menu, it was the atmosphere that did it for me. There are not mant places london that have a party atmosphere, remember Hippodrome, well say hello to VERVE, gotta go and check it out!!
I've had a great night at Verve. We booked an area and everything was prepared for us. The food was good and the cocktails were BRILLIANT. A wicked night out.
Fantastic venue, is great for corporate booking and entertaining clients We had a private area, with canapé’s and champagne reception. Found the staff very professional and the food was delicious. Will definitely book there again; think we have found the place for our Christmas party.
A great night out for St Pats.. And I have the sore head to prove it. I went to Verve last night as St Pats Day seemed a bit quiet everywhere else and I didn't think I could handle one of the Irish pubs. Great music, great atmosphere and to top it all off turns out they have an Industry night on Mondays so great drinks deals as well.. What more can I guy ask for?
Had a great time at verve...food was awesome and the staff were wicked! we all had a fantastic time :)
Verve is a cracking place to go out and enjoy letting your hair down. I went this wkend thinking that this was gonna be another let down, but TOTALLY the opposite, first the music was upto date and the dj kept everyone dancing, secondly getting a drink was not a challenge like other venues and lastly the atmosphere was spot on!!
Awesome Bar!!!! I had such a fabulous time on Friday. The manager was really friendly and helpful when we viewed the venue and we booked a lovely area in the club. Arrived early to take advantage of the happy hour... lots of yummy cocktails and we pre-ordered platters :) The staff were great and the bar had a really great atmosphere. I'll definitely be back!!!!!!!
went to verve with a few friends last saturday. if it wernt for the people i went with, i probabli wouldnt hav had a good time. Its not a bad place, and the vibes are generally good, but the DJ (in my opinion) needs to update his collection. i agree with the past review about the drinks and the ice! i had to keep asking for less ice. all in all the cocktails are nice and reasonably priced and the bar staff aren't exceptional, but bareable.
Verve is - as someone else rightly pointed out - nothing groundbreaking.
However it's nice enough. If you want to enjoy a few drinks with friends, have a dance then fall into bed at a suitable hour, it's perfect.
The bar, in my experience is hit and miss. Not great variety and just 'ok' service.
BUT the surroundings are comfortable, the music played downstairs has everyone dancing and there are areas you can hear yourself think!
A good place to start the night.
Terrible! I reserved an area for 20 people for a birthday celebration. I went beforehand to check this Venue and everyone was smiley and helpful. I paid the £25 needed to reserve which was also meant to include 2 food platters for the group. I was told I would be emailed the confirmation but when this did not happen I was told not to worry, come along anyway.
On the night the area we had was for barely 9 people! I spoke to the manager who told me to read the T's and C's (which I never got) which apparently states that they do not guarantee seating for reserverd parties.
I did get my money back (no food though)but to everyone else, please beware - what you ask for is not what you get.
Music - bland.
Keep walking right past this nightmare Venue!
OMG! What a terrible time I had at Verve. The staff were all over the place and no one wanted to serve me. When I eventually got served the staff were rude and kept speaking to each other in another language which really pissed me off as I had the feeling they were talking about me!
In the end, when I wanted to settle the bill the credit card machine did not work and the cash machine ended up charging me! What an annoying night! I wish I never went in there in the first place.
My advice is there are more than enough bars in Leicester Square, do not waste your time in this one!
Wow, this bar is absolutely fantastic. For starters, reservations put me on the guestlist for free till 11pm so that saved money. The staff there are quick, the music is so great to dance to, and the atmosphere is just what you need to go dancing. Wicked place.
Went to Verve last night as the decor looked fantastic. I asked for a large dry white wine and soda - I couldn't believe what I got! The barman put some ice cubes in a wine glass, as I requested ice, he then poured a dribble of wine into the glass over the ice - it was not even a small measure of wine, (I would say the amount of wine was just enough for a double spirit) he then topped it up with soda, it was ike drinking soda water and it cost £5.75, I will not be going to Verve again.
The Verve is a fab bar. Have been several times now since opening. The staff and management offer a great service. Food and drinks are brilliant. Keep it up, Verve. It's now our regular.
Verve has the yummiest chocolate cocktails in London! Verve is a great place.
Verve is another excellent venue from the Late Night London crew. I went to the opening night (I try to get to all of their openings) and had a great time. The food and drinks were great and the staff couldn't do enough to help - I really felt like a celebrity. I'd suggest heading down to Verve before everyone else finds out about it!
