I agree, this place has a really authentic feel to it. Crammed and noisy but quirky as hell. I visited on a Saturday night and it was rammed. They were on the ball and although we had to be moved, they eventually got us on a suitable size table and the service and food delivery was quick.

The food was fabulous, we had starters; fried squid and chicken wings. Then mains; the sizzling duck with peppers and onions, the vermicelli with chicken and prawns, with fried rice.
The food was stunning, really fresh, you could taste the fresh spices. The meat was plentiful. Prices great!

The chili oil you can ask for is lush. Also the photo-books of all the dishes really help you decide from the vast but easy to understand menu.

LOVED IT

I have just had lunch with a friend at the Viet Anh cafe on Parkway and I am very disppointed with the service and the general hygiene of the placeThe level of cleanliness is worse then any other place I have been to (and I include stalls at Camden Market just nearby).

At the end of the meal, I passed over my debit card to pay for the meal and was informed that there was a credit card charge (this being a debit card). On questioning, the manager admitted that only 30p was charged by the bank - I'm not clear what the rest was for. The manager was unnecessarily rude and actually obnoxious - it made for an unpleasant experience

My recommendation? there are plenty of better Asian stalls and restaurants that are just as cheap, definitely cleaner and accompanied by polite service Comment on this reader review

I hate these kind of reviews....clearly this person was expecting more than what Viet Ahn actually is! And have you ever been to South East Asia? Clearly uneducated on the issue of south east asian eating and where to get the best grub. This is an authentic vietnamese cafe - its not posh, its not fake, its not pretending to be something its not. You come here, you sit down and you eat good food for a very good price, you pay, then you leave. If you went to SE Asia you would realise that these kind of places are THE best places to eat!

And re the issue with the debit card? i have no idea what the issue is here - I pay by debit card every time i visit this place and I've never had any problems. The staff hardly speak any English so can hardly be blamed if a language barrier makes them come across as rude. Its a no frills service but I wouldnt expect anything more for the price and environment. What do you expect....silver service?

And there are NO better or just as cheap Asian stalls in London. All the stalls in London sell greasy spring rolls or small portions of stir fry or curry...NOT authentic vietnamese food.

This place is cool. Completely unpretentious, efficient service and great food. It was full when we arrived for lunch, but I had my table within 5 minutes and my food within 10. It's good size portions of authentic food with a Vietnamese pop soundtrack. So it's really not that much like a greasy spoon, like one of the other reviewers said.

I have been visiting Viet-anh for over 10 years and have yet to have been disappointed. The service is friendly and efficient - they have recognised me and my family from our first visit - which, as an ugly American is impossible to find in London. The food is always superb and goes down that much better with a glass of freshly-squeezed lemonade (try to find that anywhere else) and a smile. Great location for Camden Odeon, London Zoo or a day at the market. Wouldn't change a thing. Very child-friendly too.

Viet-anh Cafe doesn't look much from the outside - more greasy spoon than Vietnamese restaurant, but the food is great and suitably authentic. Just wish Viet-anh would give itself a makeover to match the menu.
