The ViewLondon Review
Set within the heart of Knightsbridge, which looks to be experiencing a revival of late, Viktor serves a combination of classic and modern Japanese dishes within a formal environment. The VenueViktor's ground floor dining room is decorated with a strong aubergine colour scheme. The design remains faithful to the building's Georgian heritage.
The AtmosphereAs would be expected in a locale such as Knightsbridge, the clientele at Viktor are well-heeled with a strong international force. The atmosphere, much like the clientele, is quiet and dignified.
The FoodThe menu is well chosen and diverse, and each of the dishes cooked to a high standard with fresh ingredients. Almond honey shrimp tempura is probably the most memorable of the dishes, with a pronounced glaze and light batter. There are a large number of ceviche dishes and the sushi menu is comprehensive with the food beautifully presented. Choose between medium or heavy fat tuna, and freshwater or sea eel.
Mains are also incredibly well arranged, with great attention to detail. The inclusion of small, extra garnishings making for great pairings with dishes such as black cod and chicken teriyaki. Desserts, meanwhile, are mouth-watering – the sorbets in particular offer an interesting selection that delivered high on taste.
The DrinkThe drinks menu is hugely varied, with everything from wine to sake to fruity cocktails. Try the kiwi and apple martini, or the Purple Reign, made with vanilla vodka, Chambord, passionfruit and sugar syrup.
The Last WordViktor may be more sedate and less buzzy than nearby Zuma, but it’s a great deal more intimate.
