The restaurant has a sophisticated design and clearly has a good team in the kitchen. Front of house staff were warm and welcoming. However the whole experience was dramatically compromised by the restaurant being understaffed, which probably explains why the service was so poor. On the saturday evening we visited 3 key dishes from the short menu - halibut, oysters, cote de boeuf, - were off, and the staff were very offhand, making error after error and acting in an arrogant fashion. The scallop starters were lukewarm, albeit tasty and the beef that we could order was of good quality and cooked perfectly. White wine was carefully icebucketed several metres from the table and none of the waiters seemed concerned that our glasses needed replenishing. Prices were exhorbitant - we would have paid the same or less at a top West End restaurant and had infinitely better service. The impression I took was that the staff really felt that the clientele were from out of town - being so close to Waterloo Station - and didn't justify any effort. Frankly, you could travel a mile or so to the Ivy or St Alban - or any number of other West End restaurants and pay the same or less for food of similar quality and receive infinitely better and more friendly service. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone unless they were in a hurry to get back on the train to the country.
