This place used to be great. I'm a local (not a media twit though as some reviewers would have it) and used to come here often but recent visits have been let down by poor service and diminishing quality of the food. After my last visit I'm never going back; one guy served me pork when I'd asked for beef and instead of apologising and changing it, tried to convince me that it was beef. Management tip: Don't try and make your customers appear to be the stupid ones.
After giving this place several chances, my boyfriend & I have now blacklisted the White Horse from our local pub/restaurant options.
The first two occasions, although the food was fine, we were kept waiting for some time by staff who weren't particularly swamped, just incredibly sloooow.
The last time we went (admittedly this was a few months ago) we ordered two roasts. We were kept waiting, again, for some time. When our roasts finally arrived, I was served beef instead of the pork I'd ordered. When I pointed out the mistake I was told by the waiter that it was pork, not beef. He was quite insistent and eventually I ended up having to taste it, before he would believe me.
We had also ordered dessert - the brownie was not particularly pleasant (dry and heavy) & my boyfriends sticky toffee pudding was completely cold in the middle, but by that point we just couldn't be bothered complaining anymore and just decided never to come back.
Nice venue but.. full of young fools who are a mix of clapham saps and media twits from the brixton hill area. If you want somewhere slightly more grown up , do not bother !
The good thing is that entry is free but most places are these days and its open til 4am , but again most places are in the areamusically its funk funk and er , funk which is a bit borish.
Food is ok but a bit suspect ie : the speed it comes out . Supplied by the likes of 'Brakes' maybe ? all in all OK tho
The White Horse has great staff, great food and great music. It is one of the best pubs or bars I have been to. We make a habbit of stopping by at the White Horse as often as possible. You should give it a try.
People who have reviewed the White Horse can't have been there for some time - it's been refreshed beyond belief. The decor is warm and inviting, and the place strikes the perfect balance between rocking night out at the weekends, and chill out during the week and the daytime.
The food is great and such excellent value - you simply must try the Sunday Roast. The beer is good value, the wine list is great, and the cocktails are professionally prepared.
The staff are warm, polite and friendly. All in all - a great night, day, evening out, that won't cost a fortune. White Horse have got it spot on.
The White Horse is a nice place although on Sunday it can seem like everyone in there has been to The Fridge the night before and is on a bad comedown! Good DJs on Friday and Saturday nights and a reasonable selection of drinks. The White Horse also serves a mean Sunday roast!
A top venue for a good night out.
Fantasic cocktails and a great new food menu (mussels are yummy).
Very cosy and relaxed, with the friendliest bar staff i have come accross in London.
Top marks to one of my favourite pubs.
