I work in the area and have been searching for months for a decent coffee shop. I read about Wild & Wood in a book in Foyles about London's best coffee shops and was very keen to give it a try, hoping to find a little haven where I could become a regular. I was very disappointed. My first cup of coffee was poor (a cappuccino that was more like a latte, far too much milk, so that I couldn't even taste the coffee). I very politely took it back and asked for another and just received a grunt from one of the people serving, no apology, no asking what was wrong with it, just a grunt and then he turned his back on me whilst I was still speaking. The replacement coffee came with the right balance of milk, espresso and froth but was weak and lacking in body - so either they are using old beans or a very mild roast or are being mean with the amount of coffee they use when making the espresso. It is such a shame because it is a lovely-looking little place. If you like your coffee quite milky and don't mind bad service (I wish I was more chilled out about it but I just think it takes no effort to be polite), then you might enjoy sitting in the little wooden seats. If you appreciate a good, strong, well-made coffee and some basic human decency then give it a body swerve. For me the search for a nice cup of coffee in Bloomsbury continues. (The Italian cafe on the corner of Musuem Street, with the red canopy, makes pretty good coffee. It isn't so nice to sit though).

Manager asks me to leave because I ask for a mug

So a friend and I met at Wild and Wood Coffee today at about 11am. She ordered a coffee and a nice looking little cake thing, and I just wanted a tea. The tea was served in a small coffee cup which was half water and half teabag and so I asked for a mug. As the waitress reached over to the shelf to get a mug for me the manager told her not to. I will now try to relate this as close to verbatim as I can remember. Me 'Why am I not allowed a mug for my tea?'. Manager 'We just don't do that'. Me 'Why not?'. Manager 'We just don't do that'. Me 'And where is the customer service in that?'. Manager 'Well if you don't like it you can leave'. Needless to say we did. From the other reviews it seems like this place is good if you want coffee, but seems a shame that it's run by such an unpleasant character.

Wild and Wood is a lovely, tranquil little place and the food is yummy, especially the cakes. They brew a mean coffee too.
