Having lived in the East end all of my life, it's about time we had a good seafood restaurant, and Winkles is a great seafood restaurant. My friend and I went to Winkles on the off chance of getting seafood at a good price and we weren't disappointed.

He had smoked salmon as a starter and I am the seafood muncher and had two starters - Thai chilli squid and mussels, all of which was delightful and left just enough room for the 700g lobster (only £20) picked by me and weighed in front of me.

People may think the decor a little Ikea but there is no hassle from the staff and the table is cleaned after every course.

For drinks, we had beer but there is wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee and all at good prices. Dessert was a must but was hard to get in after so much food, but still worth waiting for. This restaurant is good for a quiet evening out as a couple or with a few friends who want a good night out. I have told friends they have to go and yes, I will be going with them!

we happened upon Winkles on a Sunday afternoon after shopping in Columbia Road flower market. We were very hungry and decided to have lunch. We had a very warm welcome from the staff and welcome pot of cockles. Being from the east end these are a delicacy we used always to eat on Sunday for tea. But the Quality of the food is more in tune with city and west end with better service. We both had the Thai omelette, this was a suprise to the taste buds so deliciously tantalising. The main course was the dover sole with brown shrimp, beautifully cooked, and my husband had the beer battered cod and chunky chips. Although watching the waistline I had to indulge myself in a few of the chips they were very tasty.

We enjoyed a bottle of white richot wine, and could not eat a dessert we were so full, what we thought was a lovely touch was there was no rush to get you out - just a very relaxed and informal atmosphere.

I would highly recommend Winkles; the location is perfect at the moment, no too well known but that will not last long. Good food and service are like a rare gem these days.
