I had a nice lunch at Xich Lo Vietnamese Restaurant which was unfortunately spoilt by the fact that the restaurant took my payment twice and can't seem to refund the money. Despite the fact that according to my bank, a phonecall should have sufficed in terms of getting them to refund the duplicate payment, they have been 'unable' to do so without further proof.
Although the food was good, service was poor and any suggestion of Xich Lo wanting to look after their customers is sadly lacking. I would have thought that an overpayment of £35.00 would be easy to rectify in the spirit of goodwill - sadly not in this case.
We had a great dinner last night at Xich Lo Vietnamese Restaurant. My friend and I were really impressed by both the beautiful presentation and the range of delicious flavours.
We had an exotic salad with shreds of chicken in a mild chilli salsa, black sesame rice cracker and a juicy sliver of roast beef with fresh herbs, and halibut with cherry tomato and onion concasse. I found the fish slightly dry, though the sauce was tasty. The pudding was stunning: a tangy passion fruit creme brulee, biscuit with coconut ice cream inside, topped with a chrysalis and with a raspberry and mango coulis.
We were really satisfied with our meal at Xich Lo Vietnamese Restaurant and will definitely go again. Service was very satisfactory, the waiters friendly and charming.
I had a terrible experience at the Xich-Lo Vietnamese Restaurant. The staff barely understand English. I asked to substitute chicken for prawns in my salad and got both. Before ordering, I enquired about the seafood dish but decided to only have a salad and desert. They then brought the seafood dish which I turned away. The waiter then came back to ask if I wanted it wrapped to go, and I said no, I hadn’t ordered it.
When we went to pay, the bill included the seafood dish. We tried to explain that I hadn't ordered it, and they got another waiter to say on this occasion, they would make an exception and not charge us. Then we heard a loud argument develop in a foreign language at the till. After 5 minutes, we tried to talk to the lady there, but she ignored us and continued to talk to our waiter in Vietnamese. The waiter then said he would pay for the seafood dish. We tried to argue that it was not fair on him, as obviously the other employees were fresh out of Asia, and therefore she should take responsibility. She was appallingly rude. The food was okay, not special or fusion as claimed, but the service is diabolical.
I have never tried Vietnamese food before, but the Xich-Lo Vietnamese Restaurant is definitely the place to go. Very friendly staff and an attentive head waiter made our meal most enjoyable.
