Cool, quick and very convenient, there are certainly no delays at Fulham Broadway station’s Yo Sushi.

The Venue
Ok, so it’s in the Fulham Broadway Tube station and doesn’t sound as inviting as some of Yo’s more impressive sister branches, but with a multiplex cinema, shops and bars all under one roof, this place is perfectly situated for an after work bite or lunch straight from the tube.

The restaurant itself is crisp and clean with an almost clinical feel, but the in house chefs taking centre stage in the middle, surrounded by a sushi train conveyor belt, makes for an interesting dining experience. With an arrangement of comfortable leather seating booths within easy reach of the sushi train, you have privacy as well as convenience.

The Atmosphere
With one eye on which dish you’re going to grab from the conveyor belt and the other on who you’re dining with, the conversation can be at a minimum here so the atmosphere can seem a little cold. Despite this, the friendly and knowledgeable staff are always on hand to offer suggestions.

The Food
To assure freshness, each delicious dish is never left on the conveyer belt for more than two hours. The menu consists of hot and cold dishes of fish, meat, vegetables, rice, noodles and desserts, perfect for sushi purists as well as those who don’t feel brave enough for the raw stuff. The menu itself is a little complicated as you don’t always recognise the foods on the belt from the photographs so be prepared to not always get what you had in mind. With such a wide variety of dishes and a constant demand for fresh food on the belt, some of the dishes can be a little bland and you can’t always tell the difference between dishes with similar ingredients.

Each table is provided with a range of sauces including Wasabi and Soy as well as two different types of chopsticks - traditional and easy-use, ideal if you’re in a rush!

All the dishes are on colour-coded plates depending on how much they cost and range from a very reasonable £1.50 to £5. If you’d like something a little lighter, the miso soup comes highly recommended for just £1.75 (even tastier is the fact that for that price this light and spicy soup is unlimited).

You can choose from a range of hot classics including chicken, vegetarian and fish – the hairy prawns (£3.70 per dish) are delightful and really filling (as well as hair free! They are wrapped in a pastry to give this effect). For sushi with a twist, pick from the ISO section of the menu (inside out – the rice is on the outside of the seaweed roll). The poached salmon and dill is a delicious but delicate tasting dish for just £2.70, and for those who like something stronger, there’s a variety of dishes including crab, smoked salmon and tuna. The eel dragon roll for £5.00 contains fresh crab, avocado and is topped with fried eel and shishimi powder for a bit of a kick.

For the sushi purists, there’s a selection of delectable raw fish dishes. Eel and octopus for the more daring or for value for money (or if you’re dining with others), the assorted sashimi at £5.00 includes salmon, tuna and harmachi is worth every penny. To accompany your meal, there’s a range of vegetables and salads to choose from, although they can be a little on the dry side so it’s important to choose well. Recommended is the vegetable firecracker rice - wonderfully spicy, packed full of Asian vegetables and comes at a cooling £2.20 per dish.

The Drink
Tables are provided with an unlimited supply sparkling water and green tea on tap for just £1 as well as a wide selection of Asian beers and cocktails to choose from on the menu.

The Last Word
Probably not the best place for a first date but if you’re looking for healthy fast food with a difference, look no further.
