The ViewLondon Review
This chain of well established Italian-style restaurants provides a fine selection of favourites for a fraction of the price.
The Venue
Located close to Covent Garden tube station, this branch’s position is second to none and is a good opportunity to explore the nearby Piazza. A rectangular dining room is decked out in Zizzi’s usual contemporary furnishings with an open kitchen towards the back. Meanwhile there’s a room downstairs perfectly suited to large work functions or parties.
The Atmosphere
This is always a vibrant and lively place. A relaxing environment with a wealth of different clientele has made Zizzi a firm favorite. Warm surroundings acts as a perfect backdrop for an evening get together.
The Food
Starters feature freshly marinated olives, grilled ciabatta with red and yellow cherry tomatoes, garlic, red onions and a balsamic glaze and a pecorino and roasted pinenut ravioli served with pesto and rocket.
Of course, Zizzi wouldn’t be Zizzi without traditional pizzas that emerge straight out of a wood-burning oven. Choose from favorites such as della zia which is topped with crayfish, rocket and mascarpone, or one with roasted peppers, grilled aubergines and goats cheese. The usual Italian favourites including margherita, Quattro formaggi and funghi are all covered. Also worth a shot is the homemade lasagna just like mama used to make and a generous tuna nicoise salad. Not to be outdone there are a range of pasta dishes and tasty risottos. Try a different oven roasted chicken breast which is filled with mozzarella and wrapped in proscuttio. Desserts feature chocolate truffle cheesecake, tiramisu which doesn’t pull any punches and an Italian amaretto and apple crumble served with ice cream.
The Drink
There are over half a dozen reds and whites with a few typical Italian beers to choose from including the infamous Nastro Azzurro. Some wines which would accompany risottos perfectly would be a chardonnay San Rocco or a medium bodied Tuscan Morellino di Scansano.
The Last Word
Simple and uncomplicated Italian cuisine has made Zizzi a very relaxing and fun restaurant to dine in throughout London, and this central location is no exception.
