The ViewLondon Review
If a little man comes up to you as you peruse the menu outside and promises that if you don’t like his food then you’ll get your meal for free, smile and believe him - there’s very little chance that you won’t enjoy a meal here at Ozer. The VenueTucked away from Oxford Circus at Langham Place, the 5 minute walk from Nike Town and Topshop makes Ozer the perfect stop off for shoppers wishing to rest their weary feet. It’s easy to find - once you know what you’re looking for.
Deep red walls, velvet cushions, candles and leaded windows make Ozer as full of middle eastern promise as any Sultan's palace. And the effect is warm and welcoming, although some of the tables for two are a little closely packed in.
The AtmosphereAlthough this is a well known restaurant, the staff make it feel more like a simple, family-run place in the middle of Turkey. The friendly owner is very hands on and is clearly confident that you’ll leave totally satisfied. If anyone’s unhappy with the food it will be replaced immediately - no questions asked.
The attitude of the staff works its magic on the customers and people from visiting families and tourists to tired shoppers and those in the know sit and lap up the dining experience. The overall feeling is one of utter contentment.
The FoodThere’s a reason why Ozer has been recommended by the Michelin Guide 2007. The food is authentic, tasty and, more importantly, all dishes are extremely cheap for Central London. The best aspect of the Mediterranean and Turkish mix is the fact that there really is a choice for anyone - whatever your requirements. A healthy menu for dieters, special offers, menus for those on a budget, and an amazing range of veggie food means that they cater for all tastes.
Whatever you enjoy, it’s wise to choose the special menu - Winter Warmer (changes seasonally, of course), is just £12.95 per person for dinner or a puny £9.95 for lunch. A choice of a starter and main course means that you can experience Ozer on the cheap without losing out on the quality. Especially considering you receive a massive FREE bowl of bread with hummus, and olives mixed with pepper and lemon. You’ll almost be full before your starter. It’s such a lovely and welcome gesture.
The best thing to do is order the mixed starter to begin, which gives you a small taste of fallafels, tabbouleh, and the usual Greek-influenced tapas, which comes on a large plate and is a shock when served under the cheap deal. Everything is light, fresh and delicious. You’ll be full after that, so choose a main based entirely on flavour - the mixed filets of chicken, lamb and minced ball really hit’s the spot - with three large offerings of flavoured, spiced meats with a distinct Middle Eastern flavour.
The DrinkThe main focus at Ozer is on the wine with a mix of red, white and Champagne. Again, the drinks are cheap, the cheapest bottle is a Turkish red for just over £11 - Yakut Angora. A spicy, soft wine that is an affordable accompaniment for those who want a decent tipple. The wines go up to £40 for those out to spend a little more on their sensitive palate.
The Last WordThere aren’t many quality restaurants in Central London you can go and enjoy a Michelin-recommended meal for under twenty quid. Ozer is one of them. Beautiful decor, delicious food, and good service - go experience it for yourself.
