The ViewLondon Review
Food: Smoked salmon salad: £5.50, Sea bass with new potatoes, peas and new potatoes: £12.50
Service: Efficient and pleasant.
The Ladbroke Arms is tucked away down a side street and unless you know it’s there, the chances of stumbling across it are slim.
Very few cars pass by, so sitting outside under the gas-heaters or by the large open windows across the front of the bar is a must in the summer. The bar itself is a good bet all year round. The décor of cream wood panels and mirrors with a dark green carpet is reminiscent of the countryside. The beers would please all true ale drinkers.
Possibly the best thing about the Ladbroke Arms, however, is the food, which is more akin to a meal in a decent restaurant than your average pub fodder. The blackboard menu, which changes daily, always has an interesting range of dishes. I went for a lighter bite of smoked salmon salad with capers, red onion and crème fraiche. The melt in your mouth salmon was beautifully presented and complimented by the capers. My friend chose the pan-fried sea bass with peas, new potatoes and fresh cream sauce. Again delicious, although the multitude of peas swamped the under-served sauce.
Overall, however, a very tasty meal. Even though we arrived half-way through the lunchtime rush, the service was spot on and the atmosphere relaxed.
