The Best Fruit and Veg Shops
Getting the all important ‘5-a-day’ is a crucial part of anyone’s diet, whether working or playing hard - but finding good quality fruit and vegetables isn’t always easy, especially if you’re wary of the plastic-packed fruit salads and other leafy-offerings squeezed onto shop shelves between the mountains of pre-packed sandwiches. Good quality ingredients can make or break a recipe so whether you’re after a fabulous Lollo Rosso for a humble chicken sandwich or an extensive range of exotic veg to impress dinner party guests, ViewLondon has selected some of the capital’s best purveyors of the good stuff.
Turnips Distributing
43 Borough Market, Borough High Street, London Bridge, London, SE1 9AH
Supplying customers at Borough Market Wednesday to Saturday for the past 15 years, Turnips has built up a loyal following for its fresh fruit and vegetables. Supplying some of the capital’s best known restaurants, Turnips rely on a vast network of British farmers and European growers to source and select high quality and impeccably fresh produce the whole year round. Fruit and vegetables vary through the seasons but make sure you visit their exotic fruit stand – the mangoes are sublime and the yellow Dragonfruit is a nice alternative to the humble (but equally delicious!) apple.

Mahmet Anor
319 Caledonian Road, Islington, London, N1 1DR
A friendly and welcoming Turkish grocery shop with a surprising range of seasonal fruit and vegetables. Organic produce is also on offer and the owners take pride in the exceptional range of fresh ingredients they stock. In fact they make the most of the great selection of goods available and produce a fabulous range of their own homemade dishes. The Baba Ganoush is exceptional (and apparently takes more than two days to create!) whilst their in-house hummus and stuffed peppers are as delicious as they are healthy. The staff are friendly and helpful and will delight in letting you taste anything that catches your eye.
