A history of music at the PromsSince 1895 the Proms have presented the best in live music to wide audiences, with a huge line up of events and performances throughout the summer. Taking place for the 114th season this year the 2008 Proms feature over 70 concerts over 58 days of music festivities.
Join the party at Royal Albert HallThe Royal Albert hall will be raising the roof with a string of more than 70 concerts, showcasing world class orchestral music and solo performances in the heart of London. Music fans can revel in a world of symphonies, arias and concertos, featuring dozens of works from some of history’s greatest composers.
Celebrating musical history with BBC Proms ticketsA number of anniversaries will be celebrated in the BBC Proms, highlighting musical milestones throughout the ages. Last year's birthday celebrations include Moazart, Shostkovich, Colin Matthews, Steve Reich, Hans Werner Henze and Gyorgy Kurtag, whilst 2006 was also a milestone year for the deaths of Marias, M Haydn and Schumann. In addition to commemorative concerts the Proms also featured world premieres of Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No. 6, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ new work for the Queen’s 80th birthday and a new version of the Blue Peter theme. Last Night at the PromsThe Last Night at the Proms is a perennially popular, grand affair, which has become established as a definitive highlight on the live music calendar. Royal Albert Hall will be alive with rousing performances on Saturday 13th September, coinciding with live Proms in the Park performances at Hyde Park. Tickets are in demand for a chance to see out the Proms in style at what is destined to be yet another historic musical affair.
Proms in the ParkHyde Park will be centre stage for Proms in the Park, a live open air concert on the Last Night of the Proms. Taking place for the 12th year, Proms in the Park 2008 looks set to be a huge affair yet again, with a line up of stellar singers and as per usual, the inimitable Terry Wogan.
