Victoria Park
Get all indie, club kid style, at the Field Day festival, one of the summer's hottest festivals celebrating the very finest in alternative music.
Why you should go
Tired of summer festivals that promise to rock but actually just plod along slowly? Fed up with bands no one’s liked since the ‘80s taking to the stage and trying to rock out in toupees? Get your hands on Field Day tickets for an explosion of alternative music - not alternative as in mid-90s Bush and the like, alternative as in bands and DJs that are so far underground they’re practically immersed in magma… or maybe not. Either way, we’re talking crowds rocking out in skinny jeans, not flannel.
Don’t miss:
The line up for 2012 looks pretty good, with some of the best underground and well known acts hitting the Field Day stage. There's a good selection of different acts too, covering a wide variety of different genres, so fans of electro, mash-up, dubstep, indie, techno, rock, pop and pretty much everything in betweene will be in heaven on the Victoria Park grass.
Live bands
And for those who are up for a proper boogie to some great bands and acts, you'll be in for a real treat. Although this year's Field Day line up is yet to be confirmed, last year saw the likes of Twin Shadow, Wild Beasts, Matthew Dear, Gruff Rhys, The Horrors, Willy Mason, Trophy Wife, CocknBullKid, Elecrelane, Factory Floor and the almighty Ducktails all taking to the Viccy Park stage. So in 2012, feel free to break out your very best moves on the grass – all you’ll need is for the weather to hold out so you don’t have to get down in the rain.
Chill out
With all the dancing and partying that goes on, you might need to relax a bit. Sensible fans will no doubt be hoping for a return of the burlesque tent this year, where you can feast your eyes on some lovely performers while chilling out to tunes courtesy of a brass band on the Victorian Band Stand. There's also the chance to grab a bite to eat at the various excellent food stalls around the festival. Much of the food will once again be organic and locally sourced, so not only will you be filling your stomach, you’ll be helping out the planet, too.
Reminisce
If all this up to the moment music is too much for you, Field Day tickets will enable you to take a step back in time to a quieter kind of festival, old school style. Last year, you could try your hand (and feet) at a ceilidh, test your luck at a tombola, kick up your heels and go barn dancing, welly throwing, morris dancing or check out a hoedown. There’s loads more things to do at the 2011 festival so you’re well sorted whether you’re feeling alternative or antique-y.
The Field Day festival takes place from 12pm – 10.45pm on Saturday 2nd June 2012 in Victoria Park, Hackney. To purchase Field Day tickets please click the Buy Tickets button.
