Locations across London

The capital is set to be taken over by a hoard of life size cut outs of folk dancers during the 1000 Morris Dancers London installation. The brainchild of pop artist David Owen, the city wide project precedes the 5000 Morris Dancers Weekender at the Southbank Centre at the beginning of September.

Pop art installation
With a thousand cut outs of Morris dancers seemingly appearing out of the blue in the streets, parks and open spaces of the city, the 1000 Morris Dancers London installation is bound to raise more than a few eyebrows during the brief pop up event. Keep an eye out for the colourful characters, which are part of David Owen's project to rehabilitate the image of the Morris dancer for a new generation.

Cult references
Folk music in general might perceived by some to be fusty and antiquated, but pop artist David Owen is out to prove that the genre is both vibrant and dynamic. Many of the cutouts in the 1000 Morris Dancers London installation draw inspiration from iconic cult references such as the Star Wars storm troopers and The Smiths former frontman, Morrissey.

Southbank Centre
After the 1000 Morris Dancers London installation comes to an end, you can enjoy even more Morris themed fun at the Southbank Centre, courtesy of the 5000 Morris Dancers Weekend. Enjoy film screenings, folk music from The Imagined Village and The Demon Barbers, plus plenty of morris dancers performing for your entertainment, too.
