Ether 2011
Part of the 2011 Ether festival of genre defying and experimental music, the special screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey at Royal Festival Hall gives you the chance to experience Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece in a unique way. The combined efforts of the Philharmonia Orchestra and Philharmonia Voices will produce a live soundtrack to the film, in a concert conducted by André de Ridder.

Classical music
Lauded for its Oscar winning special effects, its realistic depiction of technology and its creative use of music, 2001: A Space Odyssey features plenty to keep fans of classical music happy. The live music performances and screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey at Royal Festival Hall include music by Richard Strauss and Gyorgy Ligeti, as well as the much loved Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss.

Live music season
As well as the special screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey at Royal Festival Hall, the 2011 Ether festival includes highlights such as Will Gregory of Goldfrapp fame presenting his debut opera, Piccard in Space. There's also free live music gigs, as well as the chance to see the 1928 silent film, The Passion of Joan of Arc, with a new score performed live.
