I went to mother last night for their "dance dance dance" new years party. I can safely say without a doubt that it was the worst club experience of my life. We bought advanced tickets for twelve pounds, but when we got to the door at about 11:30, they had no record of this and they had to give us scraps of paper with the words "free" scribbled on them as our tickets. When we got inside, the words that come to my mind in are dull, grimy, sausage fest with an intimidating atmosphere. The dance floor was empty apart from about 5 paralytics stumbling around. But the very worst thing about this place was the fact that when it came to midnight... They didn't even count down to the new year. So none of us knew it was midnight! but people who did realise that it was the new year, decided to celebrate by having a massive fight. The drinks were over priced for east London, and the staff were miserable. I will never go back to this club again, and advise anyone who is looking for an acceptable night out to do the same.

I came here last Saturday and had an amazing night.

Mother (with black and white floor) is really cool for early evening cocktails and then becomes a full on party by 10.

333 on the ground floor is all about the music. The sound system is sick and the DJs are some of the best I've heard in London.

It was ok, the bouncers were miserable but you can't blame them, the music was good, the barmaid was quite rude, unfriendly and served two other people before me even though I was there before, oh well, she also shortchanged me by 3 or 4 pounds tonight but I couldn't be bothered to argue about it, the toilet smells really bad and it's on the dancefloor, but other than that it was pretty good nice mixed bunch of people, quite unpretentious, just the staff need to cheer up a little

I never write these things, but I needed express my disgust at the so called management and security guards of this place. In all my life I have never come across a venue that is so obviously racist - so if you are black or Asian save yourself the head ache and don't even try to gain entry. We were 4 professional 20 something girls, well dressed and sober when we tried to get in. Despite letting the girls behind us in, we were told that the manager saw us on CCTV and told security not to let us in. We tried to find the reason for this, however security were unable to explain the reason (yes, he could have lied and said they were full, but did not even bother). I am not pulling the race card, in fact I hate when people do that, but after witnessing a similar incident with two other black people it became clear to us what was going on.

In summary, this club/bar should not be located in a diverse area of London if they insist on their ridiculous entrance "criteria".

Omg mate I just read your review after posting mine, well we were a mixed bunch of black and asian people too, and I did feel the bar lady did seem kind of racist the way she served so many people before me even though I was first, and the staff generally, I don't want to believe its racism but to be honest this bar lady with the funny cruella de ville bob and tshirt "paid to be here" really did give off a rascist vibe, but I hope she isn't and was just having a bad day..

I went there yesterday, on Sunday night. Free entrance, opened until 3am. I had such a good night. The DJ was absolutely great. And as it was not too full, we could actually be free to dance and move. Very easy going atmosphere. Relax and friendly.

the place on its own is quite nice, as it looks like a private living room, a bit retro and quite original.

I will definitely go back there, hoping that it will always be as good as last night!

i went a few months ago on a Friday night. We got into the club around 11 and we were practically the only ones there, entry was £5, but packed out very quickly.

the drinks were fairly expensive, but nothing different from normal "London prices". The music was mainly house/electro, which i didn't know i liked until going there.

I had a good night and will return again soon.

Aslong as you check, on their site, whats happening the night you plan to go out, so you are aware of music genres, you wont be disapointed.

Mother is the worst place in Shoreditch. The music is bad, it's a scary atmosphere with intimidating people.

Terrible....I went there on a friday night and it was very dark and grimey and not only did it take the best part of 15 minutes to get served the drinks were rather expensive too. Alot of nasty people there all very drunk adding to an already bad atmosphere. My girlfriend had her hand bag stolen aswell which pretty much ruined the night. Probably won't return as there are better bars in the area.

If you look at how old the reviews are on this page. All I can say is IT'S CHANGED! It is the worst place. Overpriced drinks (£3.80 a pint/ £8.80 Double vodka/ £12.40 D/Vodka and Red Bull). And it closes at 2am. The only good thing about it is that it's sometimes free. And good to go for a little boogie when you're already drunk and there is nowhere else open.

This venue used to be called Mother because an older lady used to play excellent funk and old skool music regularly on a Tuesday - it was a good old knees up with people dancing on tables etc. Unfortunately, this is taking me, and the club back a fair bit and it has long since lost its charm. In saying that however, Mother is still good on a Sunday night.

Mother is a cool bar full of lots of interesting lights and groovy seating. There's a club downstairs if you fancy kicking on past closing, but this is a pretty upbeat venue. Mother has a huge range of drinks and cocktails but be prepared to wait when it's busy.
Arrive late so you're not the only ones there.
