Proud Americans (are there another kind?) and their non-American friends can celebrate Independence Day in true US style with a 4th of July picnic at Portman Square. Get out the red, white and blue and revel in some good old Americana. There's live music, games, entertainment for the kids and traditional snacks galore. You don't even need to be an American to join in with the celebration, but knowing one is vital!

Independence Day at Portman Square

Democrats Abroad Picnic
This Independence Day celebration is being hosted by the Democrats Abroad UK group - the official Democratic Party organisation for Americans living away from home. Returning once more for 2010, this celebration should be one of the most enthusiastic 4th of July events going on around the capital. But you don't have to be a Democrat to join in with this celebration, you don't even have to be an American. You do, however, need to know an American, as tickets can only be bought by US citizens, although non-American spouses and guests are more than welcome to come along and celebrate. After all, this patriotic group don't want this important date to slip by so the more people who turn up to the 4th of July picnic at Portman Square the merrier!

Americans in London
Everyone is welcome to come along - families, singles, groups - there's something for every age group at the 4th of July picnic at Portman Square. There'll be live music, picnic games, ice cream for a taste of home as well as various food vendors selling American snacks. Children can enjoy some patriotic face painting - in red, white and blue, of course, and adults are welcome to bring wine and beer to ensure the party goes with a bang.

Live Music
All you need to bring along for the event is blankets so you can stretch out in comfort to enjoy the live music and a picnic hamper filled with your favourite snacks and drinks. Remember to take along something warm as the party goes on till late afternoon. Unfortunately fireworks are not allowed and neither are kites, but there should be enough going on at the 4th of July picnic at Portman Square to keep you entertained and to ensure Independence Day is celebrated in true American style.

The 4th of July picnic at Portman Square takes place from 1pm - 6pm, Sunday 4th July 2010. Tickets cost £7.50 and must be purchased by US citizens, although non-US spouses and guests are welcome. For more information click on the link below.
