Africa Day at Rich Mix

Enjoy a selection of short films with Africa Day at Rich Mix. Taking a selection of shorts from the overall Africa at the Pictures film festival, Rich Mix is screening the best recent films under 30 minutes long as part of the celebrations of African culture in London.

Hitting the big screen as part of Africa Day at Rich Mix is the winner of Best Foreign Film Student Academy Awards and South Africa's second ever Oscar, Elani. Haunted by the memory of a boy's death, Nomakaya is a disillusioned policewoman who must decide between her rural home and the city.

Also showing on Africa Day is Area Boys, a film about two lifelong friends who decide to leave their corrupt world of violence behind them; A Portrait of a Young Man Drowning, the winner of the Silver Bear at the Venice Film Festival in 1999 about an ex freedom fighter; and Waiting for Valdez, which tells the tale of a young boy living with his granny in a coloured area of South Africa under the rule of Apartheid.
