Explore Indian and South Asian culture in all its colour and diversity at the Alchemy Festival at Southbank Centre. With dozens of events taking place over eleven days, including dance performances, traditional music, bhangra artists, film screenings and more, there's bound to be something to suit a wide variety of tastes.

Indian culture
With events taking place to explore the culture of India as well as the impact of the country's history and relationship with the UK, the Alchemy Festival at Southbank Centre is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the dance, music and popular art of the subcontinent. As well as the ticketed performances there's also a number of free events that all ages are welcome to enjoy.

Special events
At this year's festival, visitors can learn new moves at the Bollywood dance workshops and be a part of the Southbank Centre's newly commissioned Bollywood film. Other events taking place as part of the Alchemy Festival at Southbank Centre include free morning yoga sessions, calligraphy workshops, poetry recitals and a catwalk presentation featuring the work of up and coming fashion designers currently working in India .

Cultural contrasts
Other events taking place as part of the 2012 Alchemy Festival at Southbank Centre will explore the creative potential in the contrast between urban and rural, science and religion, and classical and folk traditions. Visitors can expect an eclectic mix of events at the festival, including a film screening of Life Goes On, a contemporary adaptation of the King Lear fable starring both British and Indian talent. There's also the return of the ever popular Alchemy Market.

Indian dance
At this year's festival there's the chance to see live performances of a number of different styles of South Asian dance. Get a taste of Kathak, Bharata Natyam and Bollywood dancing styles at the free YUVA performance in the Clore Ballroom, or step onto the dancefloor yourself at the free Pakistani folk dance workshop. There's also the chance to see The Arrival, a theatre and circus based show based on the graphic novel by Shaun Tan.

Live music
Fans of live music can also buy tickets to get access to a number of live concerts and gigs at the Alchemy Festival. See the Asian Dub Foundation live at the Royal Festival Hall or get tickets to join DJ Nihal as he presents a night featuring some of the best Burban talent in the UK.
