Bourriaud argues that these alternative modern preoccupations are a distinct step away from postmodernism, and as such define a new artistic movement, altermodern. Regardless of whether or not this definition will take hold and become established as a concept and word we all use and understand, you can head to Tate Britain and make you mind up for yourself while the show is open.

As an added bonus to the Tate Triennial show, there is a free audio guide to take you round the Altermodern exhibition with a suitably atmospheric soundtrack. Fusing jazz and hip hop music with vocal and narrative layers, the sonic trail is a unique and innovative way to experience the exhibition.

The Altermodern exhibition at Tate Britain is open daily from 10am - 5.40pm, with a late night opening on the first Friday of each month (late admission 9pm).
