A stunning collection of images of the popstar features in a new Amy Winehouse exhibition hosted at OContemporary gallery in Soho. Depicted by British pop artist Gerald Laing, the pictures of the famous singer make up the heart of the show which heralds his return to the medium of painting.

Amy Winehouse on the wall
The paintings by Gerald Laing are grouped under the title of New Paintings for Modern Times, and depicts a selection of famous faces, such as Amy Winehouse and Kate Moss in his classic pop art style. Capturing the essence of celebrities like Winehouse and Moss, Gerald Laing is illustrating our 21st century obsession with fame and recognisable faces.

The Kiss II
Certain to be one of the most popular paintings in the Amy Winehouse exhibition and set to sell for around £300,000 is a picture that shows Winehouse kissing her currently incarcerated husband Blake Fielder Civil. The couple are locked in a passionate embrace that shows them in a very romantic light, unlike the way in which the pair are generally shown in contemporary media.

Amy as muse
Not just restricted to being kissed by her husband, more paintings of the iconic singer in the Amy Winehouse exhibition show her in other guises too. Her multiple personalities of performer, wife and daughter are depicted in Mother, Child and Alter Ago, and Gethsemane shows the final farewell's of Amy and Blake before he is arrested following a tip off from the media. Whether you love her or hate her, the paintings in the Amy Winehouse exhibition demonstrate Laing's talent and illustrate the ways in which we rely on the papers to portray the stars for both their good behaviour and their bad.

Kate Moss gets in on the act
Another famous face that greets us in the papers virtually every day is that of model and celebrity Kate Moss. She is also given the Gerald Laing treatment with a stunning abstract portrait entitled KM. Alluding to the beautiful sculptural figure previously created by Laing, the painting looks at the ways in which we recognise the woman as the model and clothes horse, rather than as a person with a face and an emotional background.

The Gerald Laing Amy Winehouse exhibition is on show at at the OContemporary Gallery in Wardour Street from Friday 17th October - Saturday 15th November 2008. Prints will be up for sale from £600, drawings from £10,000 and paintings from £60,000.
