An installation by Antony Gormley at St Pauls Cathedral takes centre stage on the dramatic Geometric Staircase throughout 2010 as the work becomes the next in a line of recent projects exploring the world of faith and art.

Antony Gormley at St Pauls
A cathedral is not normally the venue for one of Britain's best known sculptors, especially as his work is more generally placed outside in the open air, but Flare II now takes up residence in the world famous St Pauls Cathedral until late in 2010.

Geometric art installation
The exhibition by Antony Gormley at St Pauls Cathedral is entitled Flare II and is located in the amazing spiral Geometric Staircase. Taking on board the dramatic architectural structure created by Sir Christopher Wren, Antony Gormley is attempting to use applied geometry to create an art installation within the staircase space.

Other artworks
Antony Gormley is of course most famous for his huge Angel of the North which stands on the edge of Low Fell overlooking Gateshead. His recent work in London has seen human figures covering the skyline in 2007, and last year One and Other in Trafalgar Square saw over 2,000 people take to the normally empty Fourht Plinth for one hour at a time. So there are sure to be plenty fans of his work keen to see the Flare II by Antony Gormley at St Pauls Cathedral before it ends.

St Pauls Cathedral Arts Project
The installation of Flare II at St Pauls Cathedral is part of an ongoing project at the iconic venue to explore the relationship between art and faith in contemporary society. Recent artists to hold installations other than Antony Gormley at St Pauls Cathedral include Rebecca Horn, Yoko Ono and Martin Firrell, making this a fascinating inclusion for any visitors to the stunning cathedral.

Flare II, the installation by Antony Gormley at St Pauls Cathedral takes place from 8.35am - 10.30am, Wednesday 24th February - late 2010.

Tickets are £12.50 for adults, £11.50 for seniors, £9.50 for students and £4.50 for children.
