Art lovers have just a few hours left to catch the latest public art installation from Antony Gormley at Trafalgar Square, before the renowned artist's One and Other project for the fourth plinth comes to an end. Using members of the public as living, breathing statues to complement Nelson's Column and the other famous sculptures in Trafalgar Square, the Antony Gormley work replaced the Hotel for Birds 2007 sculpture by sculptor Thomas Shutte.

Antony Gormley at Trafalgar Square
Titled One and Other, the Antony Gormley Trafalgar Square project has placed a different member of the public on the otherwise empty fourth plinth in one hour sessions, over 24 hours per day for 100 days. A huge interactive art project that has celebrated the diversity of London and the UK as a whole, the One and Other exhibition was open to everyone aged 16 and over during the summer of 2009.

One and Other
The One and Other project for the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square follows other artistic installations by Antony Gormley such as the lone figures standing on top of London buildings and left scattered on beaches near Liverpool. However, the big difference for the Anthony Gormley Trafalgar Square project is that the figures in question have been real, living people. From child welfare campaigners to conceptual artists and everyday people looking for their moment in the sportlight, this work contemporary public art, has taken over Trafalgar Square.

Yinka Shonibare
Following Antony Gormley on the Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square will be work by Yinka Shinibare, the British Nigerian artist whose previous work includes contributions to the Scratch the Surface exhibition that marked the 400th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade. Shonibare's work for the Fourth Plinth will consist of a large scale replica of the HMS Victory, and will be seen in Trafalgar Square until 2010.

One and Other, the Antony Gormley Trafalgar Square project for the Fourth Plinth, runs from Monday 6th July - Wednesday 14th October 2009.
