Check out the Art Bin at South London Gallery if you have art you no longer want. As Michael Landy gets ready to dispose of 600 cubed metres of other people's art, the gallery is hosting the giant Art Bin where it will reside until it is destroyed forever.

Art Bin
The Art Bin at South London Gallery is the brainchild of artist Michael Landy who destroyed all his own personal possessions in an installation entitled Break Down back in 2002. Having witnessed the destruction of everything he ever owned, including gifts of artwork from Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst, Landy is now asking for donations of unwanted artwork from Londoners to obliterate in this new bout of artistic destruction.

Donations from the art world
Along with art given to Landy by the general public, there are also contributions from some very famous artists. Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, David Hockney, Gary Hume and Gillian Wearing will all be putting their art into the Art Bin at South London Gallery over the following weeks, before it is recycled or put into landfill.

The art of destruction
Michael Landy has obviously had a fair amount of experience when it comes to destroying stuff, but unlike his last large scale project, the contents of the Art Bin at South London Gallery will be recycled where it can be. Whether he will sit in the gallery knitting shreds of canvases into jumpers or gluing scraps of photos onto vases as yet to be seen, but no doubt there is something interesting in the pipeline.

Get in the bin
If you would like to have your art destroyed for the greater good of Michael Landy's art, you can submit your artwork for inclusion in the Art Bin at South London Gallery from 7th December 2009 - 14th March 2010. If successful, you can then arrange to drop it off at the gallery, where it will be added to the collection in the bin and await it's fate at the hands of the artist.

If you would like to submit an application form to have your art used in the Michael Landy Art Bin, click on the link below for more information.
