The Londoner's Guide to London
The AVATAR Tree of Souls at Hyde Park show is on in April to mark the launch of the film on DVD. A giant interactive replica of the tree that features in James Cameron's award winning film, the Tree of Souls will be brought to life in Speakers Corner for just one weekend.
AVATAR Tree of Souls
Hyde Park is the location for many significant events throughout the year but this is the very first time it will act as a corner of Pandora, the fictious moon that features in AVATAR. Home to the Na'vi people whose existance is threatened by the humans that come to mine it's mineral wealth, Pandora will be recreated through the Tree of Souls giving you the chance to get interactive with a very special alien lifeform.
Just like in the film, this Tree of Souls is a giant, moving creation of great importance to the Na'vi people. Recreated here with 20 miles of fibre optic brances, sensors within the AVATAR Tree of Souls at Hyde Park will change colour, giving off an alien-like glow as visitors make movements around it. The tree also has the ability to interactive digitally with fans of the film, as they will be able to plug in their iPods or phones and upload messages to an inbuilt screen. By interacting with the Tree of Souls, you can change its colour, make it move to the music and communicate with the rest of the world, just as the tree in the film communicates biologically through its seeds.
Colonel Miles Quaritch
As if the Tree of Souls wasn't enough of a treat for AVATAR fans, everyone who gets to Hyde Park early enough will be able to see Colonel Miles Quaritch as he unveils this unusual artistic creation. The actor Stephen Lang, who stars in the film alongside Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington, is also in London to take part in an interview and signing session at hmv Oxford Street as part of the DVD launch, meaning canny AVATAR fans can get twice as much Colonel Miles Quaritch for their money!
Earth Day 2010
Created by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Earth Day 2010, the AVATAR Tree of Souls at Hyde Park is certain to be hugely popular with fans of the film. Having won over 50 different awards for its amazing combination of 3D and high tech sepcial effects, there are certain to be plenty of AVATAR lovers keen to bag themselves a copy of the DVD and take the chance to see the amazing tree. But they can also help our own planet and its trees while they are at it. Every time one person interacts with the special Tree of Souls through their phone or iPod, Twentieth Century Fox will plant a real tree as part of the global campaign to plant a million trees worldwide.
The AVATAR Tree of Souls at Hyde Park takes place at Speakers Corner from Saturday 24th April - Monday 26th April 2010. The tree will be unveiled by Stephen Lang at 8pm on Saturday 24th April 2010.
