See art by Banksy at Selfridges as the department store hosts Urban Art, an exclusive show of urban artworks due to go on sale at an auction on 26th February 2009. Alongside many other talented urban artists, the pictures by Banksy at Selfridges will form part of an amazing show that will be a big draw for fans of the notorious graffiti artist.
Urban art galore
Works of urban art are due to show at the exhibition by Banksy at Selfridges, which also includes new, unseen and rare pieces from a number of other high profile contributors. Highlights from the show include works from Adam Neate, Nick Walker and Goldie, the DJ and filmstar, along with many famous Banksy works.
Sought after pieces
Even though graffiti or urban art is relatively new to the auction market, this doesn't mean that the estimated prices are any lower than for more classical or standard contemporary art. Bound to be one of the most eagerly sought after and admired pieces by Banksy at Selfridges is the print of Kate Moss in the style of Andy Warhol's portrait of Marilyn Monroe.
Street artists
There are many other artists showing their work at the Urban Art exhibition at Selfridges, whose street art is just as memorable as Banksy. You may not know their faces but their images will be instantly recognisable: Blek le Rat is famous for inspiring Banksy with his black rat tag, and other influential artists making contributions include Faile, Pure Evil and Matt Small.
New work
Other new and original works by Goldie, Mau Mau, Eelus, Silent Hobo, K-Guy and Inkie are also on show with Banksy at Selfridges for the six day exhibition, making this a thrilling prospect for anyone who loves Banksy and urban art in general. Sure to catch many casual shoppers eyes and attract many from the art business too, this is your chance to see yet more clever and politically aware street art inside one of the most famous buildings in London, rather than on its outside walls.
Urban Art, the exhibition by street artists including Banksy at Selfridges will run from Friday 20th February - Thursday 26th February 2009 inside the Ultralounge. Admission is free. The work will then be auctioned on 26th February 2009.
