Head to the V&A to see the opulent artefacts on show at the Baroque exhibition in London. Titled Baroque 1620 - 1800: Style in the Age of Magnificence, the V&A's spring exhibition explores the origins and influence of the famous 17th and 18th century movement.

Baroque exhibition London
Drawing together around 200 objects including furniture, silver, ceramics, paintings, sculptures, textiles and architectural items, the Baroque exhibition in London will be one of the largest and most comprehensive shows dealing with the Baroque style that the capital has ever seen. Exploring the grand and intricate styles of the Baroque movement, the exhibition at the V&A in 2009 will coincide with the anniveraries of the death of Handel and the birth of Purcell, two Baroque composers who have both made long lasting impressions on the musical world.

Exhibition highlights
Examining the movement's development and growth from 1620 to 1800, the Baroque exhibition in London will feature artifacts from countries across Europe. Highlights of the show include depictions of the famous Palace of Versailles from the 17th and 18th centuries, including the Hall of Mirrors and garden designs, as well as portraits of Louis XIV and furniture and tapestries made for the famous Sun King.

Sculptures and silverware
Other lavish and intricate works of art on display at the Baroque show at the V&A include a bust of Charles II (pictured), sculptures by the founders of Roman Baroque, Borromini and Bernini, and silber bedroom furniture originally commissioned by the Countess of Dorset. Stage sets from Baroque theatres and costumes from the Swedish Royal court will also be on show, in all their original splendour and grandeur.

The Baroque exhibition in London will be at the Victoria and Albert Museum from Satuday 4th April - Sun 19th July 2009. The V&A is open from 10am - 5.45pm daily. Admission to the exhibition costs £11.00, and can be booked by calling 0844 209 1770.
