The French name for it is 'le quatorze juillet'; a date synonymous with countrywide partying, and this 14th July, London shoppers looking for their patriotic outfit can celebrate Bastille Day at Bankside Mix.

Look and feel good
For pre-party pampering, make the most of the discounts available at O'Sullivans Salon on Bastille Day at Bankside Mix. With an appropriate nod towards Europe's fashion central, Paris, why not cast an eye over retail outlets, JOY and Oliver Bonas.

Arts and culture
Fitting for the France inspired theme, French film and literary discussions are due to take place at nearby Wapping Project Bankside as part of La Fête Nationale (or Bastille Day) at Bankside Mix. Or, if you'd rather soak up some culture, the Tate Modern and Bankside Gallery offer free guided gallery tours, whilst discounted Bateaux Mouches voyages provide a more relaxing city perspective.

Evening atmosphere
In keeping with the traditional revelry custom to Bastille Day, at Bankside Mix a street party will be the height of the evening agenda. Early evening will see a traditional 14th July Waiters' Race, mini petanque, and street entertainment along and around Canvey Street.

Nightlife
Fleur de Paris will serenade spectators in Canvey Street walkway with classic chansons and jazz typical of 1930-50s France, whilst those looking for a change of scene can hop on and off the eight-person 'Pedibus' bike which circulates between the party locations.

Eating and drinking
Visitors celebrating Bastille Day at Bankside Mix can enjoy worldwide cuisine, including North African and eastern Mediterranean, Japanese, Spanish and Italian eateries. For those with a taste for the risqué, Jade Absinthe is also available to sample.

Purchase a portrait
If you missed the opportunity to see any works of art during the day you can have yourself drawn instead. Artists a la Montmartre (the home of Pablo Picasso) are on hand to capture your likeness. A scene of live music, dancing and singing, as well as food, drink, and festivities, Bankside Mix aims not to be outdone by the carnival on the continent.

Bastille Day at Bankside Mix takes place on Thursday 14th July 2011. Admission is free.
