An historic occasionBastille Day is the French national holiday celebrated annually on the 14th July in commemoration of the storming of the Bastille in 1789. The event is steeped in history and has become firmly established as the definitive symbol of French nationhood. All are welcome to join in the celebrations, marking a 220th anniversary in 2009.
Celebrate at AngelusFrom Monday 13th to Sunday 19th July, Angelus restaurant is putting on a special feast for all you lucky revolutionary revellers. A three course meal with a half bottle of wine will be on offer, all for the generous price of £36 and £40 for dinner. Vive la France at VinopolisThis year on 14th July Vinopolis' Wine Wharf will host a musical performance based on the life of famed singer Edith Piaf, featuring singer and storyteller Bethany Jameson and accordionist Romano Viazzini. The performance starts at 6.30pm and reservations are recommended.
Battersea ParkCelebrate Bastille Day at Battersea Park on Sunday 12th July with a big festival that plans on being the largest celebration outside France. With entertainment, a French food market, petanque direct from Marseille, live music and plenty of Ricard, there are plenty of festivities to choose from.
Bastille Day at Le Bouchon Breton and Le Bouchon BordelaisBoth Le Bouchon Breton and Le Bouchon Bordelais will be running a special menu on the day. The three course menu costs £35 including half a bottle per person of wine, with dishes such as diver caught scallops, foie gras salad, duck breast and filet of sea bass.
Viva la Revolution at 93 Feet EastThis year on Friday 10th July partiers can hear the best of French punk, rock and indie with a special night of French DJ and live band action at 93 Feet East. French Revolution features Monsieur Monsieur, Cercueil and Phospho, making for a very French night out. Admission is free and the event runs from 7pm to 1am.
