The Battle of Britain art exhibition takes place at the Royal Air Force Museum to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the historic wartime event. Marking the event every ten years with a special art exhibition, this year the museum brings more new displays to the viewing public.
Battle of Britain art exhibition
Depicting the brave men and women who took part in the battle, alongside the aircraft which took to the skies during 1940, the art show at the RAF Museum invites you to consider the complexities of the conflict and the impact it had on the daily lives of those on the ground. Bringing to view fresh and different perspectives on the event, the exhibition once again presents contemporary representations of fighting in the air and portraits of the people involved.
Never in the field of human conflict...
As part of the regular tribute to the people involved in the conflicts, the Battle of Britain art exhibition has as it's main focus the Few mentioned in Churchill's iconic wartime speech. Without the heroic efforts of the groundcrew and the pilots, the battle against the Nazi bombers would have lead to a very different future for the people of Britain, and the rest of Europe. Along with their celebrated status in the art exhibition, you can also learn more about those who served during that terrible time in the RAF Museum's galleries.
Hurricanes and Spitfires
Much of the work on show at the Battle of Britain art exhibition also focuses on the amazing aircraft that was used by the RAF in it's fight against the Germans. With Hurricanes, Spitfires, Heinkels and Stukas featuring in many of the artworks on show, you can be sure to see an interesting and varied selection of the aircraft involved in their airborne battles.
The Battle of Britain art exhibition takes place from 12pm - 6pm, Sunday 16th May - Friday 31st December 2010 at the Royal Air Force Museum. Entrance is free.
