Everyone has an opinion. The Battle of Ideas London debate is a huge festival event inviting Londoners to speak out on a range of prevalent issues, touching on social issues, culture and more. Freedom of speech is a gift, and at Battle of Ideas all are welcome to present their views in an open, enthusiastic forum at the Royal College of Art.

A festival of debates
Over 75 separate debates are taking place throughout the Battle of Ideas London debate weekend, featuring over 350 speakers in London. Visitors can hear the pros and cons of a wide variety of contentious issues in an open series of lively discussions.

Current affairs
Global politics continue to spiral in complication and relevance to our everyday lives, with events in recent years bringing the ramifications of world politics ever closer to home. The Battle of Ideas London debate touches on a range of important issues including the Big Society, the American Tea Party, the future of Africa and Islamophobia.

Free speech at the Royal College of Art
The Royal College of Art will be home to all debates during the Battle of Ideas London debate weekend. With so many controversial topics on the roster you can expect energetic discussions and clashing views, all in the name of free speech.

Key events
Keynote debates are taking place on everything from loyalty in the age of whistle blowing and Wikileaks to the role of GPs in the NHS and social mobility at Oxbridge. There are also a selection of sessions relating to health, education, literature, science, technology, design, philosophy, sport and more.

New for 2011
The Battle of Ideas is presented by the Institute of Ideas. Last year’s event was a highlight, sell out occasion on London’s cultural calendar and the 2011 debate is expected to be just as big an affair. Tickets are in demand for a chance to get involved and get vocal.

The Battle of Ideas London debate festival takes place at the Royal College of Art, Kensington Gore, from Saturday 29th October – Sunday 30th October 2011. Nearest tube: High Street Kensington, Gloucester Road, South Kensington.
