A major Bauhaus exhibition London event takes place during summer 2012 as the Barbican Art Gallery celebrates one of the modern art world's most famous movements. Bringing together a huge selection work artworks, created by both famous and lesser known artists, the Bauhaus exhibition is set to be the biggest show of its kind to take place in the UK for nearly 50 years.
Bauhaus exhibition
London galleries and museums are set to pull out all the stops for cultural and sporting entertainment for summer 2012, and the Barbican Art Gallery is no exception. Exploring the fourteen year art movement through a variety of different media and various public events, Bauhaus: Art as Life takes a closer look at the ideology behind the art school, including art, culture, life, politics, society and technology.
Master artists
A huge range of artists' work is on show, including pieces from the likes of Josef and Anni Albers, Marianne Brandt, Marcel Beuer, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, at the Bauhaus exhibition. London art fans will be keen to see both their works and the art by other Bauhaus students, many of whom are unrecognised by name, but have works with which the public will be very familiar. Featuring painting, sculpture, design, architecture, fillm and photography, the show gives you the chance to explore the full gamut of artistic skill developed by the movement.
Exhibition highlights
No doubt one of the most popular artists included in the exhibition will be Gunta Stolz whose textile design skills saw him achieve bright, bold, geometric patterns for wall hangings, weaves, carpets and rugs and fabrics. A talented weaver, she was still showcasing her work in exhibitions up to her death in the 1980s.
Utopian society
At the heart of the Bauhaus movement was an attempt to pioneer the utopian vision with which the school wanted to change the post First World War society. Looking at their expressionist beginnings and their desire to unite art and technology, the Bauhaus exhibition London event is sure to be one of the most comprehensive of its kind in recent years.
The Bauhaus exhibition, Bauhaus: Art as Life takes place from Thursday 26th April - Sunday 12th August 2012 at Barbican Art Gallery.
