If you’ve ever seen a beatboxer and wondered just how they manage to make all those sounds come out of their mouths, find out at the Southbank Centre. The famous London arts venue is hosting the fifth annual beatbox convention, perfect for those who want to improve their beatboxing skills – or just get them in the first place.
A full day of beatboxing
Join in the events at a full day of beatboxing at the Southbank Centre’s human beatboxing convention. The international get together will see loads of events for pros and newbies alike, culminating in a huge concert starring a beatbox orchestra.
Learn something new
Kicking off Boxcon 09 will be workshops for first time beatboxers and seminars on improving technique. The beatbox convention will also feature talks and interactive sessions, along with some amazing performances. Make sure you stick around for the open mic session which will bring together international beatbox fanatics from all over the world.
Adam Matta v Oren Marshall
One of the highlights of the event is sure to be the collaboration between renowned New York beatboxer Adam matta and tuba player Oren Marshall at the closing gala starting at 7.45pm on Sunday 12th April. The pair will be combining their talents in a one off jazz influenced show using live mixing, looping and improvisation.
Beatboxing showcase
As well as the Adam Matta and Oren Marshall collaboration, the grand finale of the beatbox convention at the Southbank Centre will see the performances from some of the best beatboxing artists in the world. Performers include the French group Omm, and the show will feature a mix of styles and music to create a fantastic celebration of beatboxing. The concert will also feature a performance from all female beatboxing crew The Boxettes.
Ether Festival
Boxcon 09 at the Southbank Centre is part of the Ether Festival, which combines music, technology and performance to create weeks of creative and innovative live concerts.

Admission is free for the majority of the Beatbox Convention events, which start at 4pm. Tickets for the closing concert, which starts at 7.45pm in the Purcell Room, cost £8.00. To buy tickets, call 0871 663 2500.
