Head to the South Bank during the Story of London events for the BFI Jazz and Film Weekender. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of legendary jazz club Ronnie Scotts and the history of jazz in London, there's live music, rare film screenings, and much more to keep everyone happy.

BFI Jazz and Film Weekender
Part of an extended Jazz in June season at BFI Southbank, the BFI Jazz and Film Weekender also ties into the city wide celebrations of the city's history, Story of London. The weekend is a mixture of free and ticketed events that should appeal to all ages.

Live performances
Throughout the Story of London BFI Jazz and Film Weekender, live performances from Ronnie Scott's musicicans will be entertaining the crowds. Aspiring musicians will even have the chance to play themselves at the two day Ronnie Scotts Jazz Youth Workshop, and at the Friday night Open Jazz Jam. You can even go all retro and dress up 1960s swing style for the 60s Jazz Scene party.

Free screenings
Throughout the jazz weekend at BFI Southbank, you'll get the opportunity to catch rare archive footage of some legendary jazz greats such as Ella Fitgerald, Nina Simone, Dizzy Gillespie, and Louis Armstrong. There will also be free film screenings of London archive film at the Studio cinema.

Activities for kids and families
Children will be invited to take part in a series of film making workshops, and can also learn and then perform some song and dance routines. The monthly Film Funday that falls on the weekend will be screening Carol Reed's Oliver!, so there should be plenty to keep the little ones amused.

The BFI Jazz and Film Weekender runs from Friday 12th June - Sunday 14th June 2009. Ticket prices vary, and some events are free. For more information on tickets and for a full programme of events, click on the link below.
