Gardening for all
Regardless of whether you've got a well tended allotment, a shared garden or a tiny window box, the Big Bulb Plant at Trafalgar Square aims to spread a little happiness by giving out free Ruby Giant crocus bulbs for you to plant and watch grow into beautiful, bright flowers come spring. The event is part of the Thanks for Life anti polio charity campaign, and is the result of a collaboration between The International Flower Bulb Centre, The Eden Project and Rotary International.

Expert tips
If you need some help to become a fully fledged, green fingered gardener then fear not, as a number of experts will be on hand during the Big Bulb Plant at Trafalgar Square to give advice on how to plant bulbs and care for your plants. Toby Buckland and The Eden Project horticultural team will be on hand to answer your gardening questions, and Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins will also be providing inspiration for young horticulturalists.

Polio campaign
Free and open to all, the Big Bulb Plant at Trafalgar Square aims to raise awareness of the Thanks for Life campaign to help eradicate the destructive and potentially deadly disease of polio in countries such as India, by giving out free flower bulbs. The Ruby Giant crocus flowers are particularly significant as their colour is reminiscent of the purple dye used to stain children's fingers once they've received the life saving polio vaccine.

The Big Bulb Plant at Trafalgar Square takes place from 11am - 2pm, Friday 1st October 2010. Admission is free.
