The Big Chair Dance is the centre piece of the Capital Age Festival 2008 and sees 200 pensioners and older Londoners come together to perform an exciting and vibrant show of their own devising. Celebrating the creativity of older people in the capital, the Big Chair Dance is the culmination of their hard work and dance talent.

Capital Age is an annual festival that invites older people from all areas of the city to come together and create a one live performance. The Big Chair Dance is the signature piece of this year's festival and brings together the talents of all the Capital Age Festival performers and their choreographers.

Maressa Von Stockert and Gauri Sharma Tripathi have spent weeks choreographing the Big Chair Dance with the performers in their homes and dance halls, and now the time has come to stage their grand performance live at the Southbank Centre as part of the free dance festival season In Motion. One of the Big Chair Dance performances is also open to those older Londoners who have not been able to make it to the rehearsals but want to join in on the day.

Set to an original score by Tunde Jegede, and with music performed by the brand new musicians from the artists in residence at Southbank Centre, the Big Chair Dance will be an entertaining and vibrant performance. Taking place in several locations around London, the Big Chair Dance at Southbank Centre is the central showcase for the Capital Age Festival making for a exciting and unusual performance.

The Big Chair Dance takes place from 3pm in the Clore Ballroom and is free to attend. Live jazz will be on stage with the Matt Ross Quartet, the Hoxton Singers Totlyn Jackson and Leap of Faith from 1pm onwards. And there will even be the chance to take part in a giant conga dance as it weaves its way around the Southbank Centre.
