Kids can take part in the Big Draw at Covent Garden this year and see for themselves just how much fun drawing can be. With different activities, events and drawing workshops taking place throughout the weekend, the Big Draw will get everyone drawing, whether its murals of fruit and veg, portraits of historical Londoners, pictures of London transport or a self portrait.

Full of some of the most exciting drawing events, this year's Big Draw in London takes place in and around the Covent Garden Piazza, making the ideal spot for all kinds of inspiration for both kids and family. With artists, illustrators and celebrities adding their sketches to the proceeding, you can see a few famous faces around the place throughout the day too.

Add yourself to the giant visitors book with a self portrait on one of the kilometre long rolls of paper, to learn the tricks of the trade from The Cartoonists Club of Great Britain; children will find plenty of artistic inspiration all weekend. With the chance to add to the Magic Carpet piazza chalk drawing, some peculiar drawing machines made from hard hats and skipping ropes, or to simply watch the likes of Andrew Marr, Gerald Scarfe, Posy Simonds and Andrew Logan add their self portraits to the Celebrity Frame, the Big Draw at Covent Garden looks set to be a day for everyone to enjoy regardless of age.

Saturday sees the special outing of several historical figures from around London to inspire children to draw their portraits on a large collage, with help from the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, and for the less artistic visitors to Covent Garden can take a walk and sketch tour of the Piazza itself with members of the Society of Architectural Illustration to keep things interesting.

If you visit the Big Draw at Covent Garden on Sunday, a huge barrow full of fruit and vegetables will greet you in the market square, waiting to be captured on canvas in a gigantic mural. Everyone is invited to help draw all the fresh produce and create a vibrant and topical picture of Covent Garden.

Finishing off the weekend on a high note, the Battle of the Cartoonists takes place from 3pm to 5pm, where cartoonists from The Guardian, The Independent and Private Eye will all cross pencils in an epic two hour session to prove their drawings are the best. Creating banners to decorate the Piazza with, the best and most sensational will go on display after the Big Draw at Covent Garden is finished.
