Help break a Guinness World Record by taking part in the Faberge Big Egg Hunt. London locations are playing host to 200 giant and specially crafted Easter eggs in a unique event which aims to raise funds and awareness for charities Action for Children and Elephant Family.
Giant Easter eggs
Measuring two and a half feet, each one of the 200 fibreglass eggs in the Faberge Big Egg Hunt London event have been designed by a leading artist, fashion designer, jeweller or architect. The pièce de résistance in the collection is the stunning 127 carat emerald and gold pendant designed by legendary Faberge jewellery house, titled Le Collier Plume d'Or.
Unique designs
High profile artists such as Marc Quinn, Sir Peter Blake, Roger Dean, the Chapman Brothers and Rob Ryan have all contributed one-off designs to the Faberge Big Egg Hunt. London art lovers and families alike are bound to enjoy searching for the eggs, which are hidden around the centre of the city.
Famous names
Other famous names who have added their designs to the Faberge Big Egg Hunt London event include the architect Zaha Hadid, jellymongers extraordinaire Bompas and Parr, fashion designers Vivienne Westwood, Bruce Oldfield and Zandra Rhodes, film director Sir Ridley Scott and musician MIA. Egg hunters with an eye for fashion will also want to keep an eye out for the designs by iconic department store Selfridges and fashion house Mulberry.
The Big Egg Hunt
Art auction
At the end of the Big Egg Hunt all of the eggs will be available to buy at auction, with the money raised being split between Action for Children and Elephant Family. The organisers are hoping to raise up to £2 million at the auction with proceeds funding the charities' essential work in protecting vulnerable and neglected children and fighting to save the endangered Asian elephant.
Open air exhibition
Taking the concept of public art to the next level, the Big Egg Hunt follows in the footsteps of the Elephant Parade, which saw over 250 brightly coloured, life-size model elephants pop up at locations across the city. This time around there's a seasonal twist to the city-wide exhibition, with the eggs going on show on Shrove Tuesday and remaining in place throughout the 40 days of Lent.
Iconic brand
One of the most revered names in jewellery and design since it was founded in Russia in 1842, Faberge is renowned for its 50 bejewelled Imperial Faberge Eggs, which were made between 1885 and 1916. Fans of the iconic brand who take part in the Big Egg Hunt have the chance to take home a special homage to the historic eggs; the Faberge Tribute Egg is valued at over £100,000 and will be available to win as a prize.
The Faberge Big Egg Hunt London event takes place from Tuesday 21st February 2012, and continues for 40 days. It costs £3.00 to enter the hunt. For more information on how to collect your map, click on the link below.
