Turning Theatre Square on the South Bank into a giant urban campsite, the Big Sleepover London event takes place as part of the Watch This Space festival at the National Theatre.

Inner city campsite
You can expect plenty of playful pursuits and fresh twists on traditional pastimes on the South Bank over the weekend, as creative performance art specialists Home Live Art are the curators of the Big Sleepover. London dwellers who want to embrace the holiday spirit without necessarily lugging a tent and related camping paraphernalia into the heart of the countryside can take part in a series of special events outside the National Theatre.

Campfire songs
Roast marshmallows by the roaring campfire and feast on food from the barbecue at the Big Sleepover London event, which is free and open to all before 7.30pm. There's also the chance learn some bushcraft skills and listen to some magical storytelling at the event, which includes contributions from artists Martin Brookman, Mike Webber, Tim Mitchell and White Rabbit.

Evening events
Highlights of the evening programme at the Big Sleepover London event include a singsong by the campfire and archaeologist led walks along the river's foreshore. There is also limited space for you to spend the night under canvas, and the evening's activities include making your own clag egg cup, to be fired in the camp's kiln overnight in time for breakfast.

The Big Sleepover London event takes place on Friday 26th August 2011. The event is free from 5pm - 7.30pm, with booked overnight spots available from 7.30pm - 10am.

Camping tickets cost £10.00, which includes breakfast. Kids over the age of seven are welcome in the family sleeping area. For more information and to book tickets, call 020 7452 3445.
