Billy Childish Exhibition London

A Billy Childish exhibition London event takes place at ICA during spring 2010 and marks the first major solo show of the man, the artist and the musician. Seen in cult status by all who follow his work, the exhibition charts his artistic outpourings from the last 30 odd years.

London is no stranger to seeing Billy Childish perform as a writer and musician, but this exhibition is the very first to show his artwork and hail it in the same light. Presenting work that has been inspired by his last three decades working in different media, Unknowable But Certain is a must see show for anyone who has every seen or been intrigued by the artist.

Art on show
Taking over the whole of the ICA galleries, the Billy Childish exhibition is divided into two separate sections where fans of his work can immerse themselves in his different artistic personas. The lower gallery is dedicated to his recent artwork, which includes many of his expressionistic paintings. Including self portraits, boats on the Medway river, still lifes, pots made by his mother and depictions of the Swiss modernist writer Robert Walser.

Music and words
While the lower gallery concentrates on the visual arts, the upper gallery is taken over by Billy Childish the musician and writer. Taking 1977 as the starting point, this part of the Billy Childish exhibition looks at his musical career and collaborations, with its independent themes and punk connotations. Alongside the music, visitors will be thrilled to see books and pamphlets containing writing by Childish, many of which have been designed and even published by him. Campaign literature, poetry and prose, much of which is autobiographical in nature also features heavily.

An evening with Billy Childish
Fans of the artist will be keen to get their hands on tickets for an evening's entertainment with Billy Childish as the artist heads to the ICA for poetry readings and film screenings from his filmmaker group the Chatham Super 8 Cinema. An evening of poetry and film with Billy Childish takes place from 8.30pm on Thursday 25th February 2010. Tickets cost £5.00.

Unknowable But Certain, the Billy Childish exhibition London event takes place from Wednesday 17th February - Sunday 18th April 2010 at ICA. Entrance is free.
