Bonhams urban art auction
Once derided as mere vandalism, street art has slowly but surely moved into the artistic mainstream over the past few years. With celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeves and Jude Law all snapping up works by Banksy and others, the cultural impact of urban art can no longer be denied. The Bonhams urban art auction in February 2009 is your chance to join the enviable ranks of those who own some of the finest street art around, so get out your credit cards and cheque books and prepare to spend some serious cash.
Banksy
Two lots by Banksy are bound to get more attention than others at the Bonhams urban art auction. Expected to make around £100,000 - £150,000, the set of six Kate Moss prints in the style of Warhol's famous portrait of Marilyn Monroe were originally produced as part of a limited edition of twenty. Since most of these have since been sold off individually, this complete set of six are bound to be even more sought over and collectable.
Nola Pink
Another work by Banksy titled Nola Pink is expected to attract a huge amount of interest. A unique canvas painted to commemorate the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Nola Pink depicts a girl being rained on from beneath her umbrella.
Rising stars
Also going to the highest bidder at the urban art auction at Bonhams are a number of works by up and coming artists. Pieces by Nick Walker, Faile, Adam Neate, Mau Mau, Cept, Blek le Rat, Beejoir, Cyclops, Guy Denning and many more will all be going under the hammer, so head to Bonhams if you want to indulge your appreciation for art and make an investment at the same time.
