25 May 2013 The Londoner's Guide to London
Lose yourself in the book maze at Southbank Centre and experience the creative love child of Brazilian artists Marcos Saboya and Gualter Pupo as their 250,000 book labyrinth dominates the Royal Festival Hall. Paper jungle Made entirely out of books old and new, the book maze at Southbank Centre will be like no other maze you have ever seen. With dominating walls of over 2.5 metres high, you will find yourself physically immersed in literature of all kinds as you try and battle your way out of the never ending paper jungle. Inspiration The maze was inspired by J L Borges, the Argentine writer, whose work often featured themes related to unreality and dreams, perhaps loosely relating to the notion of a labyrinth. The literary puzzle takes the form of a fingerprint, making the book maze at Southbank Centre a challenging day out for even the most seasoned of maze masters. Quarter of a million Visit the book maze at Southbank Centre to see a library of 250,000 books constructed in a way which has rarely been done before. Over half of the books have been borrowed from Oxfam while the remaining 100,000 have been donated by publishing houses from all over the UK. The book maze at Southbank Centre takes place from 8am – 6pm, Tuesday 31st July - Saturday 25th August 2012 at The Clore Ballroom, Royal Festival Hall. Admission is free.
