Get ready to see world class opera and ballet performances beamed live from the Royal Opera House onto the BP Summer Screen at Trafalgar Square. Part of a series of open air live screenings taking place across London and the rest of the UK, this outdoor event is always a popular affair.

Free cultural event
Regardless of whether you're a die hard ballet and opera fan or a newcomer to the genres, the BP Summer Screen at Trafalgar Square gives you the chance to soak up some accomplished performances and hopefully a few rays of dwindling evening sun too. Better yet, the outdoor screenings are completely free to attend.

2012 season
The 2012 season of events on the BP Summer Screen at Trafalgar Square starts with a live screening of the Royal Opera production of La Boheme, opera's greatest love story, starring Celine Byrne and Joseph Calleja. Conducted by Semyon Bychkov, the opera tells the story of a struggling poet whose life changes forever when he meets a beautiful young woman. A perfect introduction to the dramatic and passionate world of opera for anyone who has never seen a live performance before.

Live opera and ballet
Also appearing on the BP Summer Screen at Trafalgar Square is the acclaimed opera Falstaff by Verdi, which is a fantastic Shakespearian comedy starring Ambrogio Maestri as the eponymous portly figure. This is a new and lavish production which is also part of the World Shakespeare Festival, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company for London 2012. The final screening to take place at Trafalgar Square is Metamorphosis: Titian 2012, a brand new ballet, created with several scores from British composers and stage designs from leading contemporary artists. Also part of London 2012 the ballet was inspired by the Renaissance painter Titian's works that hang in the National Gallery.
