With inspiring photos of the athletes kitted out in their Adidas sportswear, the Britain United Olympic exhibition is sure to get everyone who sees the photos feeling patriotic and urging the team on to bring home as many golds as possible.
Britain United
Situated on the Southbank from Friday 1st August onwards, the Britain United Olympic exhibition runs for the entire length of the 2008 Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games. Featuring athletes from both games, the photos will no doubt inspired many youngsters onto greater sporting acheivements, and even get a few more Londoners thinking about walking, running or cycling more.
Olympic stars of the future
All of the photos in the exhibition are mounted on two and a half metre back lit frames, and feature the athelets in places that have inspired them on to become Olympic stars. All of the GB team come from around the UK, and the photos were taken in the places that are meaningful to them. Home towns, schools, beaches, forests, moors and tube stations are just some of the backgrounds that mean so much to the athletes who have come so far with their special skills.
Sporting talent
15 different sports are featured in the photos, across ten different disciplines. Amongst the stars of the Britain United Olympic exhibition are British diving talent Tom Daley, Olympic and Commonwealth gold medal winner Marlon Devonish, London Marathon winner and Paralympian Shelley Woods, and World Champion track cyclist Victoria Pendleton.
London Olympians
Making London feel part of the Beijing Olympics is World Champion and Commonwealth gold medalist Christine Ohuruogu whose photo has been taken outside Stratford tube station. Having grown up here and gained her love of sport from her primary school just up the road, Christine will no doubt be a huge inspiration to many other youngsters who are thinking about their own sporting activities with an eye on the 2012 London Olympics.
With stunning photography from the London based award winning British photographer Jude Edington and a host of inspirational pictures of the GB team, the Britain United Olympic exhibition is a fantastic display of Britain's potential sporting acheivements.
Britain United, the Olympic photo exhibition is on display on the Southbank outside the Tate Modern gallery, from Friday 1st August to Wednesday 17th September 2008.
