Canary Wharf Film Festival 2009
Screenings in the film festival take place over five days in three different locations around Canary Wharf: the East Wintergarden, Cineworld West India Quay and the Museum of London Docklands. Whether you are a keen short filmmaker yourself, or have an avid interest in the film world, there will be something to inspire or interest you.
Special screenings
This year, films across all different genres and categories make up the selection at the Canary Wharf Film Festival, including animation, documentaries, music videos, films from around the world and shorts from the UK. Several special guest screenings are also taking place, so anyone who attends the festival is likely to get a great mix of films, and perhaps go home with some new favourite filmmakers. As part of the 2009 festival there will also be a spotlight on the cinema of Serbia, and a special film quiz.
Cannes in London
Spoilt for choice with a great selection of short films, a good mix of genres and styles, and the chance to see them in three different locations, the Canary Wharf Film Festival has everything you could want from a film festival in London. Bringing together the London based film community with more filmmakers from the rest of the world, Canary Wharf is set to be the Cannes of the capital in September 2009.
Canary Wharf Festival awards
But it's not just about viewing short films for fun. Each of the entries into the festival are up for an award, so you can expect to see a few nervous faces as the filmmakers watch how their work goes down with the audience. If you would like to see how well your favourite animation fares, or find out which is the very best international short, you can head to the Golden Canaries Awards Show towards the end of the festival on Monday 7th September.
The Canary Wharf Film Festival takes place Thursday 3rd September - Monday 7th September 2009 at East Wintergarden, Cineworld West India Quay and Museum of London Docklands.
